Old gas strikes again

About 4 years ago I put some old gas in one of my tractors. In a few hours I had a bad case of sticking valves. It was so bad I had to remove the valvce cover to free them. I am in the process of getting my old TO 20 running so I can sell it. the tank was empty after sitting for quite a few years I thought no problem I will just add some new gas. I guess the new gas loosened the crud in the tank, and two of the valves were sticking. I had to remove the valve cover to free the valves. While the tank was off I drained the gas. So what can I add to the gas to help the valves from sticking again? Stan

a good chainaw 2 cycle oil with a sabilizer such as Stihl oil at about 150:1 or 200:1 ratio, leaves a film on the valve stems and keeps them from sticking, but not so much it fouls plugs. I have one with new guides that are a bit tight and will stick when hot , but work fine if I do this.

Two that I use are:

Two cycle engine oil - it does not smoke at even 50:1 mix.

Automatic Transmission Fluid - very high in detergents.

Is enough oil getting to the valve stems?

You need to add 50/50 acetone/atf into the tank to dissolve that varnish in there. About a gallon. then shake it around few minutes, then let it sit on the bottom for and hour. Then shake again like crazy and sit on side and hour. Then last the other side. Then drain.
Then do the same with 2 qts lacquer thinner. Then last with 1 gallon of gas.

Once I get the valves free I add new gas with Marvel Mystery oil. I use MMO while loosening the valves too.

ATF from what Buickdeere say is low detergent but I have heard both ways. Either way ATF works well to free up most any thing that does not want to move easy

Check out Home Depot. They have a variety of chemicals in quart thru gallon containers in the paint dept.

Be careful with your hands and painted surfaces. Acetone is a powerful solvent and can lift mature paint and remove all the oil out of your hands causing skin cracking.

If you get it on you, wash good with S&W and apply a good hand cream/lotion.
