A few days ago, someone said they had a Waterbury garden tractor a long time ago.
I found this artical of the new garden tractors in 1951.

I restored 5 or 6 of those StandardTwins back in the 1970's. They were all gear driven with a mullti-disc clutch that ran in oil. They also had a pto. They used a pulley on the pto to run the sicklebar mower. They would pull a 10-in plow like it wasn't on there. They made a VikingTwin too, but I never had one. I did have a Viking G. I gave $15.00 for it 1960 that included the cultivator, disc harrow and moldboard plow. I kept the plow when I sold the

My Dad bought one of those little Waterbury walk-behind garden tractors in the early 50s and my brother and I used it a lot for cultivating, mowing and plowing snow.
Great little machine!
The snow blade had such a curve in it that when you plowed you could push down on the handles for traction using the weight of the snow in the curve of the blade.
When my Dad sold off his dairy herd, he kept the very best cow. He had a nice alfalfa field and in the summer my brother and I took turns going into the field with the "Waterbury" and its sicklebar mower to cut enuf hay to feed the cow each day.
He built a nice little trailer on which to haul the hay.
We never had a real rotary mower in those days so it became my job to keep the lawn mowed with the little "Waterbury" and its sicklebar mower.
Had to keep the knives sharp and well adjusted in order to mow grass!!
My Dad always used Penzoil in his car and when he changed it he would keep the used oil in clear glass one gallon jugs. This is before high detergent oils and the impurities would settle out leaving a nice dark amber clean oil which is the only oil we ever used in that little Briggs engine.
