Iv posted before about my dislike for computers, some reason we just dont get along. Over the years iv had a Packard bell, than a win, or some computer fair junk, a compaq laptop, which worked good, but the power supply, were you plug into the back went bad, couldn't charge the battery or run it off the wall outlet. Next we bought a nice hewett packer lap top, less than 2 years and the same thing happened the power input were you plug into it burned up overheated or something, couldn't be fixed. Now I have a Dell insperion 530 or something, it also has issues. My brother and wife both have toshiba lap tops, neither of them had any problems with them! Anyone here use a apple computer? Or what brand have you had good luck with? And those ads you see on tv, clean up your pc , has anybody ever tried that? Or is it just a scam! Lol

I've got an HP tower. The wife has an HP laptop. She had the same issue with that one that you had,the power cord jack quit working. Royse, from on here fixed it for her. Works great now. Sounds like the power cord jack must be an issue with a lot of brands.

I have three Dell laptops and yes the power ports do go bad in them. The port is fastened right to the motherboard and it just can't take the strain of being pulled and pushed on ever time the supply is plugged.

Never tried one of those cleaners. I just backup everything, wipe and reinstall windows. Makes it all nice and clean. The disadvantage to this is having to do all those windows updates again.

Jay,
Go back to your last post a page back. I replyed there earlier. I have a Dell Inspiration, also. It blackscreened. It would try to open windows, but couldn't. Dell did a complete cyber overhaul, and it's working great. It had an issue with temporary files loading it up. I have a new 3yr warranty, and a program that dumps the temp. files each week. Dell has called several times since the overhaul to check on it, added somemore programs. I'm very pleased with Dell.

I only have desktop Models.

At work I have a Dell that is over 8 years old. It has been fantastic. Had to replace the hard drive last year - but that is it. Since then, it is like a new machine.

At home over the the past 11-12 years, I am on my third HP. So I may go with a Dell desk top next time (if they still make them...seems all are going to laptops - but I prefer a desktop for the larger screen).

Stay away from ads. I always buy what's cheapest, Dell, Compaq, you know. The desktop I'm using here at the farm I bought used on flea-bay. If it balks I restart. They seem to fix themselves if you leave things alone.

Why not make a jumper(extension) and leave that little 2 in. cord plugged in all the time . just plug charger into it. Should eliminate the pull on the port.

Thanks, but im not patient sometimes, 2.5 hours on the phone with a Indian I can
Barely understand! Maybe the wife will do it! Lol, I think we have Vista. All I use the desk top for is billing and posting pics on this site, nothing else! It works fine for billing, but it disconnects during a upload, sometimes freezes up, tells me no modem detected, not connected when it is on line, ect! When I try to post pics on this site from the phone, I hit upload but it won't take me to my pics. I know others said to use photo bucket but.. I don't wanna do that. Chris said something down below about apple having a restriction so I can't post pics from the phone to the site! I don't know.

My Toshiba laptop has the problem with the power supply connection. Had it fixed twice now, and its doing it again. Guy said I was stretching it out or something, but Im not. Next laptop will be a Mac of one type or another. Im not willing to try one of those cleaners you see on TV, Ive heard they work, but take up more space than the junk they clean off, and they are loaded with pop ups and other junk.

I don't own an Apple computer, but I have an iPhone and an iPod...currently I don't have a home computer, but the iPhone does fine. A computer in my hand!

The next time I have money(?) and find myself in need of a laptop, I think I'll go Apple.

Never heard anything bad about Apple. Apple users are fanatical about their computers - this company seems to go the extra mile to make products & software that just "work". Of course, they charge more for it, but maybe it's worth the extra $$$ to have a reliable product!

I, too, have spent many frustrating years in the PC/Windows jungle. My iPhone and iPod are the best computer products I've ever had. Hands down.

And no, I don't work for Apple!

I agree 100% I also have an iPhone, I'm on this site right now on the phone. I'd never buy another windows pc again! I also don't work for apple! Lol

I avoided Apple products, but after my wife got a Iphone, I got one, and she has a Ipad. Our next laptop will be a apple. Great products.

I use a Toshiba Netbook while watching TV...never had an issue with it...almost 3 years old now..for the desktop..I build one 4 years ago..cost me $308.00 with a DVD burner..2 gig memory..bought a barebones kit from CompUSA online..they have many choices and options. When I was working for a large municipality, we had about 30 Dell desktops in the shop and very, very little problems with them. They ran 27/7 and most in a greasy, dusty, changing temperature environment. I have an Imac on the back porch and I think that is a good place for it..LOL

Had a couple of Gateways in the past. Finally bought a lap top and was talked into trying Apple. Since then we've bought two more Apple laptops and an iMac for the house. Wouldn't have anything else now. Very user friendly and they don't get buggy like windows machines.

They aren't cheap but if you go to Apple's website and type in refurbished in the search window you can save a couple hundred bucks. All of mine are refurbished and have a full warranty and no problems.

Buy your individual components from somebody like Newegg.com and assemble it yourself. The prices MIGHT be slightly higher, or maybe even slightly lower, but you will have put in the best components and you know what is in there. Also, if you do that, every component inside the computer is not proprietary, so you won't have to buy replacement parts from the manufacturer if something does fail. As for the operating system, load it up with something other than Windows. Ubuntu is wonderful and it's FREE.
If you are uncomfortable doing something like this, get help from the neighborhood high school or college computer geek. Give him a pizza coupon or two and everybody will be happy.

I have a desktop system I built from scratch using (mostly) components from NewEgg. It has given no problems over the past six years, aside from replacing the DVD burner last month. I'll probably upgrade the motherboard in a couple of years, assuming it doesn't quit before then. About once a year I upgrade the Linux operating system, and I have to clean out the CPU heat sink every year or two. My previous system I kept going for about fifteen years, but once the AT form factor became obsolete I had to switch to an ATX system. Building is definitely the only way to go for a desktop system; you pay a little more than you would for a Wally World PC, but you get a system that's upgradable for years to come.
