OK guys, what is this chain. Those are wood cross slats.
I was on another forum and no one can figure out what it is.
I don't think it can be a conveyor chain because it does not have flat links to engage sprockets.

Looks like a ladder for playground equipment that somebody hung up horizontally as a fence. Just do a google image search for "playground rope ladder" and "playground chain ladder". Tons of pictures available.

im thinking cargo chain too like off a ship or railroad car, those wood slats wouldnt last in any type of conveyor operation, and i dont think it would be good to put a man on, but as a unit it would hold cargo in place

I haven't a clue. If I had cattle, I would strech accross creek to keep cows in but let water flow.

Seems to me I've seen something like that kind of chain in pics of ships - anchor chain. Those big capstans have notches that engage those shape of links. Try looking in marine stuff ??

I think you are right. I would have to find my Viet Nam photo when we landed their in July of 1965. I remember going down one, but not sure if it was rope or chain. I do remember them telling us to hold on to the sides and not the cross bars.

looks homemade to me...not sure about the chain but the slats look like braces off cross pieces on telegraph poles.

I agree with the answers on the help identify forum. Chain gate used on freight trucks in "store door" service. This is where a long day is 10 (ten) miles but 30 or 40 deliveries. If there was also a tarp across the back it was called chain gate & curtain. Popular back in 30's, 40's, even saw a few around 1970, when local trucks didn't even have heaters. Boss would say driver supposed to be outside carrying boxes into stores, not sitting in cab keeping warm.

Yep, the vertical pieces look like utility pole cross-arm braces. Very handy. This looks like a home-made gate that the old cow pushed up on the cross-brace and bent it up as she scratched her back.
