Way OT:Need a ham recipe

I have to do all the cooking for my parents now. and Mrs redtom is busy with our family stuff. So that leaves this guy learning! Baked ham is good but is there a way to make it with taters and veggies like you do a beef roast. "One roaster" dishes are easier for mom and pop to serve themselves.

My wife says ham is lots saltier and also makes lots of fat when you bake it. Might make the taters and veggies taste salty and be a little greasy, much more so than a beef roast. You could always try one for yourself before you serve it to them.

Is it slices or a 1/2 ham? Sweetpotatoes along side of a 1/2 do well,If it is slices, and you have a crockpot a couple of cans of pork and beans, bushs or whatever you have and pieces of ham,This way you can leave it on low, they can take out what they want when they want,it will be ready and safe for them, and good! Also easier for you!

The easiest way to bake a ham is the oven roasting bags, most people just use them for turkeys but hams come out great, and easy clean up too.

How about ham and beans? That's one my favorite meals. Easy to fix! Great Northern (white) beans - I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. The longer you cook them, and the more times you warm them up for leftovers, the better they get! Some folks like them more like a soup. I like them both ways! Side dish of spinach greens, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese. 'Course, you havta be able to make that sweet cornbread, too. My wife's mother always used cured pork shoulder in her "ham" & beans. It was the best, but a little more fatty. The fat makes the flavor! What time are you planning to have this ready?

I always liked to throw ham pieces in a crock pot with lima beans and cook them all day.
Ham and lima beans is a fav of mine. You used to be able to buy cans of it in the stores, but I guess they quit making it. Home made is better anyway.

Thats what my wife said. Thats why I decided to inquire here where the "standards" are higher and more experienced

Ham and beans cornbread and fried potatoes. That's the way it was when my wife and I were growing up. Still works today. Time to make a grocery list.

As evidenced by the replies there must be a hundred ways to serve ham and vegetables. I like to make pot roast with Boston Butt pork roast. Can be done on top of the stove or in the oven. In addition to the pork I add potatoes, carrots, onions, and a little celery. I guess you could throw just about anything you wanted to in it as well. And I'm with you on this, one dish, or pot meals are a lot easier and easier to clean up afterward.

Have never baked vegtables in with ham. I kind of think they would get a bit too salty.

Here is a one-pot recipe to use up left-over ham. You can use a crockpot if you like.

Boil your ham with diced onion, (season the soup base with black pepper and a tiny amount of garlic powder and onion powder) until the ham is tender and falls apart. (I add enough water so that the soup is not real salty). Add soaked navy beans and cook until mostly tender. Then add more diced onion, chunks of potato, shredded carrot and a package of frozen sweetcorn. Cook until vegtables are tender.

Start with some soup and make layers with potatoes then soup then ham then cheddar cheese more soup and so on.
