Good for you!!! Nice picture! I'm sure you made his day!

It's a shame you didn't have a third party to take the pic so he could be in the seat of his 40.

He'll need a poster of that to hang in his living room. ..

A great photo!! Thanks for posting it. Both combines are nice and have their place, even today.

Great pictures. The first combine I run was a 1954, model 55, JD with 14 ft header. My, my I thought that thing was big. And I was a high school kid.

the first combine i ran was a mf 300 w/13ft head,then dad bought a jd 4400 w/15ft head, then dad and i bought a jd 6600 w/16ft head and we ran both for several years, then i traded 6600 and sold 4400 for a jd 7720 w/20ft head,then i traded for a 9600 w/25ft head thats pictured,then traded for a jd 9650 w/30ft head, then traded for jd 9670 w/35ft head i currently run.

Brought back some memories, we used to have a JD 40, althought it never did as good a job as the JD 12A that it replaced.

Awesome pics! Grandpa traded his 12A for a 40 in '61. My uncle still has that 40. Gets it out once a year and runs some fescue seed. Grandpa said he paid for it the first year running red top.

Just goes to show how much machines have grown up over the years. Just think that little machine did the same job as the bigger one but took what 3 times as long to do it but how about the cost of fuel etc

I took a similar picture a few years ago. My 1944 John Deere B and two bottom next to my neighbors 8630. I was plowing a garden for another neighbor and it really showed the contrast in size. The photo ended up on the back cover of Green Magazine.

Too bad you couldn't park an S690 beside both for a comparison... or better yet, a Lexion 770.

Always makes for a good feeling, when you know you have helped some one else achieve something they wanted to do. Although it was not monumental in some folks eyes, it was to your landlord. I am now 60 years old and for some reason I have never understood, most of my true friends have been older folks. Most of them are gone now, but I still think of them and the things we did and things we talked about. I am now quickly entering the time in my life where I am becoming the older generation. One of the things I hope for, is for some younger guy to look after me, like I have done for my buddies who are no longer here.

thanks, hes a very nice gentleman.sad a few years back he started alsheimers , he told me same story every day 2 or 3 time a day so i would listen. 1 night he woke up sometime in middle of night and left his house which is on a main state route and in the morning his wife couldnt find him. after few hours search in some chilly weather he was found approx,5 miles from home. he had walked in the dark on 2 state routes to farm he grew up on. nursing home bound now,and doesnt know any of us now but hes safe.

we all need to slow down and appreciate some small moments in life because they can mean so much to others . and life is passing us all by way too fast!
