My Dad just passed away and he had this Case VAC-14 that I just started up and it seems to run fine.. I think he paid $3500. Is it still worth 3 grand? Thanx Dave Marvin

Not worth a plugged nickel. I will haul it away for free just to save you trouble. On the serious side, where is it and what kind of condition?

Something is worth whatever you can get someone to pay for it where you are and at the time you want to sell it.

Condition means a whole lot. Rarity of the model might mean something to some potential buyers. Options and features of the tractor might mean a lot. The local market for tractors of that size might make the price you get much higher or much lower than it might have been in a different area.

Case made a whole lot of VAC"s. I grew up on an older model VAC that I wish I had kept hold of--it worked very strong, was good on gas, and always started pretty easily at any temperature. But it didn"t have a loader and had the older, high pressure hydraulic system that didn"t work very well. I still wish I had it now!

As another poster mentioned, photos would help to give an opinion of value. If your Dad paid $3500 for it, he must have figured it was worth that price. But when did he buy it and is it in the same condition as when he bought it? If he bought it several years ago, it may be worth some less, as the market seems to be down from what it was before the recession.

I think if I was considering selling my Dad"s tractor, I would end up keeping it around. Which in fact is what I did with my Dad"s last tractor, a Ford 641D. But I use the Ford often and have been able to keep it working pretty well. Your situation might be different and you might have no use for, or place to keep a tractor.

If your Dad"s Case is in great condition, with great tires and everything working well, it might be worth $3500, but I think that is optimistic. If you HAVE TO get rid of it, I would start about that figure, but would plan on taking less.

But I would sure consider keeping the Case, if that is feasible at all. I sure wish I had kept our old VAC, which my brother traded in on a new tractor he bought, getting $1000 off the price. I sure would have paid my brother that much. Good luck!

In It's best of cloths with new shoes it may bring 3 grand to the wright person. If it has a whole family of implenents it may be worth 3 grand, but a bare VAC14 in average condition is a $1,500.oo tractor at best.
