working on a tractor

I am working on an Oliver 770 tractor, which was run hot and has a blown head gasket. When I took it apart, the head was warped, and the top of the block also seems to be warped and is raised in the center by the center two cilenders. It is out of clearance on both ends about an 8th of an inch. Is it normal for the block to have a crown in the center? Thank you Mike

If the top of the block is that bad I would check the bottom end where the crankshaft goes. Whole block could be bent. No, the top surface of the block should be flat.

Generally you should be looking at a maximum of about .004" - .006" over the length of the block. You're talking about .125" on your block. That sounds like major problems.
