OMAHA STEAKS

FIL for years ordered steak for the family Christmas for years. Pretty darn good steaks if you ask me......even if they did have a gold plated price.

For those who live in places that can't get good beef then it would be fine. I have had theirs and did not like. Home grown is sooo much better. I think they give Nebraska beef a bad name

MIL and FIL work there, we usually get the odds and ends they can't sell and can't complain. It's hard to find a better steak at any local/chain resturants then I can have at home. chris

There are the original Omaha Steaks, and also the guy down on the corner selling steaks from Omaha out of his truck, which are cheaper. Have had some of them and are not bad for money, but not the same as the regular Omaha. Some people have gotten mixed up on the two thinking they are the same.

Our local town cop ran that clown with the truck out of town for scamming people last summer. The true omaha steaks aren't bad but as others say it's pricey but good.

I just live 25 miles north of Omaha. We use their steaks for Christmas gifts will ship right to your door froze in a styrofoam coolers. No compliants from any one. They use their meat in some of the better steak houses in the city have been very good.

Have been getting those adds for years and they go unopened directly to the trash. Just got one a couple of days ago. NO WAY am I ever going to buy meat that has to be shipped to me. Wish they could be shut down.

Wife got a gift certificate to them from work last year so we ordered some stuff. Like another post said they are a bit pricy, but for the quality of the items we got it's hard to complain. That said when we ordered we got staks, hamburger, and a few different kinds of the chicken. Everything has a great taste and is as good, or better, than anything we have found locally.

The wife made the mistake of using them one time to send some to her Dad in Virginia. They hounded the h3ll out of us for years to buy more. Didn't matter how many times we told them that we're in the cattle business and eat our own, they kept calling.

If you want the best you ever had,let me know. I'll deliver free to the slaughter house of your choice here in Michigan,so long as it's within 40 miles or so of me. Greenville,Six Lakes,Saranac,St Johns,I've even hauled to Pohls in Caladonia.

You butchering some old cow that came up dry? We raise our own for butchering and nothing you can buy in any store comes near what we have in the freezer. Rocky.

A good one will hang it as long as you want them to. We used to use Alma Freezer, they hung close to 4 weeks as a standard practice. They've retired and closed up. We use Jones Processing now. Common practice for them is 10 days,we have them hang it for two and a half weeks.

David G,

Are there still any locker plants around the CR area any more? 50+ years ago I was a salesman for the now gone Rath Packing Co. I was based in CR and several of my accounts were locker plants...Mt. Vernon, Walker, Shellsburg, Keystone, and probably some I"ve forgotten,

Stan

Stan there are still a lot of lockers plants in the small towns of eastern Iowa. Solon, Mt Vernon, Newhall, Amana, and many others.

A brand new one just open in Parnell Iowa about 3 months ago. I got a beef processed there in December.

Good eats.

Gary

From Omaha Steaks website..."2 (24 oz.) Porterhouse Steaks 1640MRC
Reg. $130.00 Now Only $79.99 ".

That works out to be $43.33 per pound based on their regular price and $26.66 per pound on their Sale price.

Seems kinda high to me.

Gary,

Thanks for the reply. I worked in one of those in Indiana in '56 and '57. I used to tell my buddies that I made a dollar an hour (true) and all I could drink on hog kill day. Two of my jobs on those days were to take the gut barrels and the blood barrel outside, plus cleaning up the kill floor.
