I usually always start my saved pictures with the same letter and end them with a 3 digit number such as IH 002,003-010 etc. This way when you want to look up an IH item you know where to look. Other items would start with a different letter.

I have also marked them with a number and letter such as 1A, 2A, etc. This way they are in alpha/numerical order. If you use a 2 digit number and get to #9 then #10 will be put before or after #1 this is why a 3 digit number is good if you have a lot of pictures to organize.

Second picture, I think somebody goofed by putting the punctuation mark (???) between the "t" and the "r" - that makes it Clet rac & I've always understood it to be Cle trac for the Cleveland Tractor Company. LOL

We use a program that groups them in folders by date then you can tag descriptions and keywords onto pics or groups of pics. I think Adobe or Google has one that does this for free?

It's all one word. They were bought out by Oliver.

Interesting history there. Rollin White was the inventor of the Cletrac tractor. He was a member of the family that had White Motor Company. Oliver bought Cletrac, then White Motors bought Oliver. Kinda like swallowing their own tail there for a while.

Larry,

Love the logo pic!!! Really cool.

My photo editing software-and probably Microsoft photo software too - has stuff for "tagging" photos, but I don"t use it (at least not yet).

My favorite way of organizing files (both pics and docs) is as such:

For pics, I put them into separate folders such as:
Family 2010
Family 2011
Family 2012
or MY FAVORITE...
Rusted Iron-Old Bldgs-Scenery...this folder has a sub-folder for every junkyard or old building site I have ever visited and they are labeled by name (and one junkyard that we frequent actually has five sub-sub-folders... LOL). *BUT I HAVE TO CONFESS... inside my folders and sub-folders is one hellacious mess. ROFLOL! Though before importing pics from camera I do try to rename them all by date taken and some relevant file name followed by a number in parenthis (1).

In case you don"t know... one can rename hundreds of pics in your camera by highlighting the first pic -

THEN hold down your SHIFT BUTTON

and while holding that down, ALSO depress your ARROW DOWN button.

This will select every picture on your memory card.

NEXT, just RIGHT CLICK on top of any one of your selected group -

then select RENAME and type in a new name...

your computer should automatically rename them all and assign a number after each one (because other than the assigned number the file name you typed will be the same on all those pics. EXAMPLE: grandson 1st birthday (1)...they will all be the same name but will be numbered consecutively. (Sadly, I just figured this out accidentally about a year ago. So I was previously wasting a TON of time renaming each photo individually).

Document naming example:
YT - then list subject matter of saved posts/pics
letter - for farm payment
letter - for annual Christmas note
recipe - spaghetti sauce
recipe - chicken paprikash w. dumplings
qutoes - name of person
Farmall Regular - then name of whatever info I am saving regarding our Regular

Hope this helps!

I have a lot of photos, and everything is backed up on my Passport or smart drives. Had a hard drive crash and almost lost everything. I too have them in folders and named so I can find them. Example DEL IN TUB.

rrlund :

I know, I was just having some fun with Larry, but that "spot" between the "t" & the "r" does look like a punctuation mark in the photo.

rrlund :

Yep, but think of all the hundreds or maybe thousands of machines you'd have to do that to, to correct something that should have been done at the factory. LOL

Wheat Farmer,

I too learned the hard way that one has to back up files.

Now I back them to an exernal harddrive and to a flashdrive (double insurance).
