High blood pressure and cdl ?

Today i just barely passed on my blood pressure " i think the nice doc fudged the numbers and let me pass" But if i get on medication for it do i have to recertify every year ? I'm 33 and not overweight and im in good health but ive had high readings before in the past .

I can't pass DOT physical for other reasons now,
I did/do take medication to control hypertension,
And yep, had to renew every year.
If its not medicated, and under control,
maybe not, I don't know.
I was/am on meds, so different scenario.

I am on a 2 year recertification. My Dad had some minor issue
and got on yearly and has been ever since. Not a huge issue
as he/I get yearly physicals anyway. I think once your in the
system you stay that way. I also think it depends on your Dr.
I'm posting from my phone. Not sure why it breaks up the post this way.

If your on blood pressure meds you have to renew every year. The magic numbers are 140/90. Your blood pressure has to be below these numbers to get your medical card.

every time i go for a med cdl card, after testing eveything, then they want to take blood pressure, no wwounder why it's high, have to relax for 10-15 minutes, then it passes, why do the doctors take it before putting thru all the blood pumping test... on another note, depending on what you eat plays a factor in blood pressure...

Most prescribed meds on the planet are blood pressure meds.
The rate numbers got lower a few years back from what they were. What was once normal is now not. Look at the studys they site for the "recommended" number. They were funded by drug companies.

not sure, i also have high blood pressure and take meds for it, i do have to test every year for my cdl, but that is because im over 50, not sure if high blood pressure will make you test every year at 33, but i would not think so, as long as you can prove your on meds for it

Here is the rule.

§ 391.43
Instructions for Performing and Recording Physical Examinations

Blood pressure (BP). If a driver has hypertension and/or is being medicated for hypertension, he or she should be recertified more frequently. An individual diagnosed with Stage 1 hypertension (BP is 140/90-159/99) may be certified for one year. At recertification, an individual with a BP equal to or less than 140/90 may be certified for one year; however, if his or her BP is greater than 140/90 but less than 160/100, a one-time certificate for 3 months can be issued. An individual diagnosed with Stage 2 (BP is 160/100-179/109) should be treated and a one-time certificate for 3-month certification can be issued. Once the driver has reduced his or her BP to equal to or less than 140/90, he or she may be recertified annually thereafter. An individual diagnosed with Stage 3 hypertension (BP equal to or greater than 180/110) should not be certified until his or her BP is reduced to 140/90 or less, and may be recertified every 6 months.

I had a heart attack in 2009 ended up with 3 stints. Now I have to have stress test every year and pass it before they will give me medical card. Just had stress test last week passed with flying colors. The only problem is the cost 685.00 I have 5000 dollar deductable insurance. I am going to turn 56 in March. Never did have high blood pressure.

Typically mine runs high the first time or two they take it, every time I go to the doctor, for any reason. In talking to the doc while getting my medical card she told me what it's called, and I can't remember what she called it, but there is a name for the 'condition' where that happens. For me all they do is give me a little bit of time to relax before taking it, and do it a few times until I gt relaxd enough to pass. Doc said it's somthing that happens to way more people than you'd imagine, and something they see every day when doing the DOT physicals.

I had the same problem a few years ago. Bought a digital gauge from Walmart. Found out I was just nerves about getting my blood pressure checked. Was you talking to the nurse while she checked you? I found out I could think of something good and keep my mouth shut and lower my bottom number 5 to 6 points. Also don't drink any caffeine coffee or tea or especially Mt. Dew etc. before you test.

I have been on blood pressure medicine for twenty years. Just a water pill. I get a two year physical card because my blood pressure in under control with the medication. It usually runs 125/75 on the meds. Off the meds it was running 130/90.

For me they called it White coat disease. I have the same thing. I found out my left arm is 5 point's higher then my right. I get to test for cdl on a two year thing, 120/60 last time on med's, but lost 50 pound's in last 2 years.

I have been on High blood pressure meds for over 30 years now ( I'm 57 now ), I have to get my medical card every year. What a pain. My stress level has dropped a lot since the first wife passed, but the doctor says that my now lower blood pressure is probably only temporary.

I went to the Dr and my blood pressure was 10 pts high. Well that was after having a half pot of coffee.

Experment at wal-mart's blood pressure machine. Try taking a babby asprin or a garlic pill, both are blood thinners. Lay off the caffine too. See if that helps your numbers.

I'm 64, my numbers are 128/70. At the Dr's they were 138/70. It was the coffee.

Smoking will raise your numbers, along with many other things. Google blood pressure and see what you can do without taking meds that my have harmful side effects. I'm not on meds, asprin or garlic.

Before you go for BP test. Don't eat, no caffeine. Inhale and raise your shoulders at the same time. As you exhale, drop your shoulders and relax. Unless they take it lying down, keep your feet flat on the ground, breath normally, don't talk and don't move.

If you have white coat syndrome it helps to arrive early so you can relax. If you are nervous about it tell them so they can take it a couple of times. An aspirin before hand will help. $o.2
