Went out back to the sawmill yesterday and found that someone cut all the copper fuel lines and battery cables off it. They also went around to some junk cars and trucks we have in the woods and cut the battery cables off those too. I wouldn't have noticed, except they left all the hoods up. Is anything safe anymore?

What's yours would have been mine if you hadn't taken advantage of me and stole it from me first attitude coming from the top down. Lot of scrap metal in plows and implements as well.

Awful lot of work and risk for a few dollars.

With all the time and effort they put into running around breaking into junk cars and cutting out the battery cables, they could hold down a minimum wage job and make more money at it.

What is copper worth these days? I have a small pile of scrap and some old wire that used to go from a pole to the house. Must be like gold to risk jail for what sounds like not much copper.

Its usually meth-heads. Side effect of the drug is they can't keep still- have to be doing something. They take appliances apart, stuff like that- its called "tweaking". So copper theft is the perfect activity for them- something to keep them busy, and get a little money in the process for the next fix.

As far as getting a minimum wage job, not much chance of that- their appearance scares everybody off (stringy, greasy hair, bad teeth, wild look in their eyes, hands moving all the time).

Copper theft got so bad here in Dallas, the county passed an ordinance. Now, in order to sell used copper, you have to have a plumber's license.

Don't know if it slowed them down, or if they just take it to the next county.

They are so lazy they don't want to haul/lift an air conditioning unit, so they strip out the coils right on side of house and take only the evaporators! Of course harder for cops to trace the parts if stopped on the road.

I got a notice from insurance co. stating that theft or vandalism
of our flat bed trailers or cargo is no longer covered.

Dry vans are still covered.

Seems thieves are stripping copper.

Keep an eye out for black smoke. Alot of times they will burn
off the insulation. You may get lucky and they are close by.
Suspects were stealing wiring from under semi trailers localy
here and were caught because of the smoke. Turns out they
only lived less then a mile away from the site of the thefts.
