Seaman motors inc tractor with a GM engine from the 1950's.

we have an old Seaman motors inc tractor with a GM engine from the 1950's.

does anyone have any info about this type of tractor? rarity, value etc.

Thankyou

They made road building equipment, such as soil compaction equipment, scarifiers, in place mixing, water wagons, etc. and tractors to carry/support this equipment. You might check with one of the construction equipment forums.

In the late 40 s and early 50 s Seaman made a 'one trip' soil working tiller that was powered by a Detroit 2 cycle diesel. It did not sell very good , needed lots of power , traveled very slowly across the field and was noisy! The above picture shows the outfit. If there were rocks , that did not work good. The ones I saw , were at the Wisconsin state fair. clint

While not common, Seamon tractors are not exactly rare either. I'll spot one every so often at a show. And there's one similar to yours (it has a Detroit 4-71 diesel) going at auction here in a few weeks.

Incidentally Seamons were "assembled" tractors. Major components - engines, transmissions, axles, steering gear, brakes, etc. - were sourced by outside suppliers then assembled into finished tractors at the Seamon plant.

A freind of mine has a 1956 Seaman-Andwall tractor. It weighs in about 9500 lbs, has a big detroit engine. It has something like a 5speed tranny with a super low low and high range. Proably one of the only manufacures that had a leaf spring front end under it. He got up in the mountains in colorado, sitting on an old tailings pile. Big and load with a staight pipe.

hope this time the photo uploads okay

Years ago, the next county had one with a big rotary tiller on the back, when they redid the blacktops, they would run it in the road to break up the oil and chips and have a smooth roadbed to start over with. Chris

I owned one for a long time. Quit using it & left it sit outside. Sold it couple years ago for $600. Engine would turn over with battery but we didn't try to start it; too much trouble to get filters, etc. It had a couple of the 8 ft. rototillers that churned up roadbeds, which were mixed with cement to make a base for blacktop roads.
