OT Infrared/Or Quartz heaters, Input

Can Any Of You Guys/Ladies Shed some light on personal Exp. on any of the heaters on the market now Infrared/Quartz, or Other..(They are ALL Adv. as being great of Course), LOL! Need for Supplimental heat in Home/garage,Just need for use on Cooler days/Nites i'm in the Sunny South.... Ga. Thanks, Larry

All electric heaters provide so many BTU's per watt..none are any better than the rest..there are differences in things like fans or reflectors..for instance if you wanted one to sit in front of you..me myself, I would like a nice reflector behind the element and no fan........just my 2 cents!

They only work for a very small area, like a small bedroom or a bathroom. Electric heat is expensive, unless you are paying 4 cents per KWH, which I doubt, I am paying 12 cents per KWH, I think.

Rickeyblue is correct. turning electricity into heat with a stand alone device is is just resistance turned into heated air and infared radiation, nothing else. It does not matter if it has oil or silicone or working fluids. The least expensive device that is simple and points warm in your direction is best. Follow its directions to avoid fire issues. Heating the room will take a 220 volt heater with 2500 watts or more. Heating you will be more like 1200 or 1000. Fans put more warmed air on you, non fan types have only infared to supply heat sideways and some of the heat goes up as convection. I like a modest fan. Jim

I bought a 6 element quartz heater at the farm store for $95. It is 1500 watt with a fan that isn't too loud or windy. It is some knockoff of an Amish wood cabinet deal. Keeps the living room nice.

Lowes sells catalytic/IR portable propane heater 18,000 btu that uses a 20# propane tank. Depending on your cost for electricity, this may be cheaper.

18,000 btu is about the same heat as 5.5 kw electric.

Going to TSC to have your tanks filled is a bargan vs exchanging pre-filled tanks.

Most are no more than 1500 watts. A 1500 watt heater costing 400 bucks gives off no more heat that a 20 buck milk house heater.

As I have said before the 400 buck heater may be a good deal for some when you find out the above. The burn you do when you find how bad you have been had will take away the need for even 1500 watts of heat for some time.

Hey Larry.

Radiant heaters really come into their own for heating people instead of entire rooms.

As others have said all electric resistance heaters produce the same amount of heat for the 1500 watts that most provide.

Radiant heaters can be pointed at an area such as a workbench (or livingroom couch) and keep you comfortable even if the temperature in the room is quite chilly.

As a general rule the heaters that you can see the red hot element (or plaque for a gas fired model) without a fan produce the most radiant heat.
