Pretty place there. NW Ala. right now at 65 degrees about 30 above normal. Found buttercups blooming yesterday.

Yes it's January! 27F in Phoenix, -17 in N MN. What kind of timber is that, and how big? I did the same thing, I pulled out some whole trees in Dec. Black ash, 18" dia. 65' long.

Yes it is January?!?! I think... Had a misquito flying through the barn about 3pm.

60F here in Mid-Michigan yesterday. Did my "spring-prep" on a few pieces of equipment. It will save me a day in the spring which is my busy time.

I figure this warm weather means we better be ready for a whole lot of -10F. I love the winter and the snow, but 15-25F is perfect. Cars start ok, snow melts on the sidwalks during the day, etc. But when my eyelashes freeze shut, thats a little too cold for me.

ohiojim,
Crazy, isn't it? Turned cold yesterday in MN, but just prior to the cold snap - it was warm enough to melt all of our snow.

it's red oak and it's 26" on the butt log, whole tree comes out to little under a thousand board feet according to my log scale the butt log is 14 feet

Goodness that is something else. Way down here in okla it is more than cold enough for me. I would rather have 110 degrees F forever than this cold winter LOL. Hot and dry works for me.

Sell those logs. You can buy all the wood for a year off what they will bring. Logs are bringing good money now.

Have an idiot BIL that cut down a bunch of walnut trees because they "split easy" for fire wood. Could have heated his house for years with the value of the logs he cut. HE came over to my place when we used to burn wood and could not figure out why we cut the junk trees an left the nice straight easy to cut and split trees. I showed him a check from some logs I sold several years after that. My sister really raised cane with him about what he had done. LOL.

Friday afternoon I was spraying fire ants since we got some rain and they popped up everywhere. The bad part was, I was swatting mosquitos at the same time.

Jim;

Where are you located? I am in western Logan county. We had a lot of trees blown down in the storms last summer. They are broken off from 15 to 30 feet above ground. Mostly red oak and hickory. Can't believe the force needed to break the trees off like that. Always thought oak and hickory was strong wood.

One large oak broke off at least 30 feet high at a fork where the first limbs started. Base of tree is about 26 inches and got about 2 cords from those 2 limbs. Planning to cut the remainder down in early spring and have it sawed for lumber for a hay wagon bed.The maple trees blew over at the roots.

my friend had a nice job last week of cleaning up all the downed trees for a trout fihing club here in nj. Lots of trees and limbs down all around their trails in the woods,I helped him ,I didnt take pictures,the club is private and I didnt think they would like the idea of picture taking,didnt want to disrespect them,

Calendar says it's January, but not the weather! December was mild, got a snow storm after Christmas about 13 inches, than January 3 we got down to -4. Off to a good start i was thinking.This past Friday temps warmed up, and it rained, yesterday was high 40s and a thick fog,, and now snow is melting fast! Crazy weather. There saying 48 got today!

Central NC hit plus 70 today. I spent part of afternoon working on my old truck in a t-shirt. They say it's gonna change in a day or two. But I enjoy every day of the warm weather!

Pruned some shrubs yesterday, found pu$$y willows just starting to open. Bet they'll be frozen solid by the end of the week. Normal crazy Michigan winter.
