Perfect match

I have a Hesston 4590 small square baler that I use on a White 2-105 tractor. I'm looking to downsize and was wondering what you guys think is the perfect match of a tractor for this particular baler. Preferably 1960's-1970's John Deere or International tractors. Thanks!

I'm a little confused, if you own the white outright and plan on baling hay or farming in any capacity why not keep it? It's value is most likely the same as any smaller tractor you would purchase to replace it. Personally I like to run my baler on a decent sized tractor, just makes the day more pleasant.

I did word my post a little confusing. I mostly
just wanted to get your guy's opinion on what you
think is the perfect old tractor for square baling.
I know there's a lot of them out there, but I was
just curious. I am planning on keeping this White
and continuing to use it.

We did all of our baling with a diesel 686 International, it was nice because the pto engage lever was behind you on the right so you were looking right at the windrow entering the baler. I suppose a hydro 86 would be nice for the infinite speeds.

Really like my deere 2550, but in a 60's-70's model I would guess a 2030 or 2240/2440. There is a pretty clean 2240 for sale here locally for $5500.

This little 4 cyl diesel is quite fuel efficient and nimble in the smaller fields. I run a vermeer 605H with it and sometimes the NH 68, although the 68 most of the time gets pulled by the Ford 3cyl 2000 because I don't like to unhitch the baler from the 2550.

Just my 2 cents...

Anything from a John Deere B to a Farmall H will work for small squares The real work is handling them once thy're baled..

If I had to stick with a deere, a new generation powershift would be my choice, 2510 would be cool, but they are hard to find, and I would take a 4020 over a 3020, because they don`t consume much more fuel, and are twice the tractor. Personally I am looking for a Massey 180 to put on my hesston baler, the multipower trans. is better than the synchro-range 4010 I run it with now, and the fuel economy is almost unbeatable on the MF.

my JD 4230 is a perfect baling tractor. its a lil bigger than your thinking but mine runs my JD 336 baler with a kicker rack behind it. perfect baling tractor for me

I run a 4590 Hesston, and I think it would bring a JD B to its knees, real quick! I would try it with my old IH430 baler, but these newer high-capacity balers take a lot more oomph to keep spinning.

I wouldn't want anything less then an M on a baker my dad tried years ago with a freshly rebuilt H on a IH 46 baler and forward progress stopped every time the plunger went back have ran an NH 277 with thrower with an M a case DC and all the way up to a 756 my favorite baling tractor is my 560 diesel
