I bought a f600 with a 4 speed and 2 speed rear end I was hauling about 15000 lbs on it when I came to a stop sigh I switched it to low but it never shifted it's like it's stuck between high and low. The drive shaft spins but truck won't move I relaxed the splitter switch but that didn't help any advice would be much apreacated

Been there done that many times. The two speed shifter on the stick went out. It has three wires, a hot and two shift wires. Get under the truck with jumper wires and arc it and you can shift it to either to get it home.

The buttons aren't expensive - they are generic for everything. I have a Borg Warner one in the shed I will go get you the number.

Be good to that rear end shift motor. Those things are PRICEY. You would be junking the truck if you burnt it up.

I always shift it when I am just barely rolling to a stop. They work on a big spring so sometimes they don't mesh if they don't hit just right.

rear end shifter has electric motor thats shifts it. could be blow fuse, shifter switch, bad motor or shift fork . I would check to make sure you have power back there, then see if the you hear motor working then check shift fork. motors do go bad. I have changed a few years ago. good luck

Borg Warner number is S480.

That is the style with the push on pin connectors. My 58 has the loops with bolts but I shouldn't think your Ford will.

If you have it home just put the new switch on and lift it to high and then turn on the key. Push the button down to complete the cycle and you should be good to go.

Sometimes the spring for the points in the elec shift motor break leaving you sitting like you are. If you have juice at the motor you can pull the cover off and check, rebuilding the motor don't cost much.

Thanks I replaced the switch on the shifter about a hour ago and it has power now. But still won't shift to either side I hope it's not the motor it did this to me a week ago but I played with it and got it to go into low but the motor isn't makeing any noise I'll look at it a little more tomorow any tips on how to check or where the fuses are to shifter also the old shift know was shorting out aka the random blue flash every know and then when switching ranges

Boy I don't miss those days! I will guess it's powered by a circuit breaker, and not a fuse. They draw quite a lot, in a short time.
Not your immediate problem, and maybe you already know. About every truck I had the heavy rear end oil would over time seep into the two speed shifter. I got so every year, before cold weather, I would service the little oil reservoir.
The last one I had was air shifted! Being at the end of the line guess where condensation ended up! So rather than getting sluggy with heavy oil, moisture was the culprit.

Sounds like you need to take that motor off and clean it up. It doesn't turn a lot so wearing out is something usually reserved for things like school buses that are shifted 30 times a day.

Maybe ground if it is intermittent. The ones I have done (buses) have cartridge fuses. It should ground throught the mating surfaces - you may need to pull it off and take a wire brush to it. You would know if it were pulling enough to blow a fuse as it would pull so much juice for a while that the headlights would dim when you shifted it. If there is power to the back it isn't a fuse.

Find out which rear end it is and google it on line for a schematic to pull it apart. Knowing Ford my guess is that it is a Spicer rearend.

Also wiggle wires from the shifter back and see if your power goes out. The wires are easy to follow.

I would buy a new electric switch kit for it then you know you are good on that aspect of the system.

I imagine they are right when they say water or oil has gotten inside the shifter box. We always tried to service them in the fall. Put a little alcohol in the box will help with the moisture. Just two bolts hold the box to the axle. I have took a few of them off and turned it to high, then put it back without hooking up the wires. Once in a great while the wires break where they disappear in the floor board. You bend them every time you shift it. Don't update to a modern one with a solid state board! They are worse than the old ones.

I put a new motor on it and it went into high range but it wont go into low the motor spins but it won't go to the low side any ideas or adjustments I can check
