Got a ford 641 winter project and working at the radiator, the one that came on it is wasted. I know what the aftermarket re-pops are going for and understand the quality differences between the original and what's available new. Took it to the radiator shop and the gentleman quoted me $600.00 to recore, tanks are in decent shape. When I picked my jaw up off the floor, cat said price was because copper was so high. I believe I was fed some bull. Anybody had a recore done lately? Ballpark price. Not many shops around here. Anyone have a recommendation on someone that can recore? No problem shipping it.

Well shoot. What's the rotten one worth at the scrapper, $100.......just can't see $600, guess I just don't know.

jlius, i called waggoner radiator@ 270-247-4984 and they have a new one for 249.00. this located in mayfield ky, hth, charlie

Anyone able to speak to the compatibility between models. Would imagine 600, 601, and Jub units would work but what about other. Seeing one claimed to be out of a 4000. Tanks look the same, can't really tell the deminsions, water necks look long but that can be overcome. Any reference material on the subject. Thanks in advance.

I just went through the same thing with an oliver 1655 diesel. $450 for a Chinese replacement, or $450 to have it recored with an American core. I told him to recore it and he thought that with good tanks it would be better than the replacement radiators.

without double-checking, I'd say any '53-'64 Ford tractor radiator should fit. That would include the 4-cylinder 4000's, but not the 3-cylinder models. Would take some time, but you could look up the various models on Messick's parts site, and compair part numbers.
And while copper is high, $600 is out of line. That is not a big radiator. (and it would be roughly $60 for the old one at a scrap yard)

Kinda what I was thinking but who knows, the shop I talked to is about the only game in town. Market drives price.

One of the radiator shops close to here in NC has started buying a lot of small engine parts because they just can't do much with the plastic and Aluminum radiators that come in cars now.

So that's a factor too. Gotta stay in business somehow.
