GMC 270 head

My grain truck is a 58 GMC with the 270 straight 6 in it. I am the third owner and have a pretty complete history on it.

Bought knowing that it has always eaten head gaskets for both owners. It seems like it has been every 10 years or so from new. Sure enough, the gasket went when it wasn't convenient. I slapped another on and put her back together. I noticed that between 5 & 6 there seems to be a defect in the head that had been causing the burnout. I believe a casting issue. I didn't have the time to take it to my head guy as they always seem to be about three weeks behind.

I would love to take it off and have it welded and planed but it isn't high on the list. What is that head repair stuff in a bottle like? Would that help me from doing it again 10 years down the road? Obviously it doesn't get used daily but when I do it is always a job no other machinery could do.

Before anyone says it - no I am not wanting to replace the engine. The old truck has 77k miles on it, doesn't use a drop of oil (even with no filter), and is strong as an ox. The elevator isn't all that far away so I am not spending tons of cash on a new crate engine. Besides the fact that I like her how she is!

i have use devcon which is like jb weld but better. come in a tube like grease.worked good with the milling machine when planing the head.
also if the rest of head is flat i would do it myself with a big flat file.

K & W Block Seal is probably the most effective "head repair in a bottle" and it is quite effective in sealing CRACKS IF the directions are followed PRECISELY, which few do. It is not intended to seal compression leaks between cylinders, nor is anything else.

Remove the head for proper repair or replacement when the truck is not needed.

I have 2 heads for 270 engines , actually 2

engines, send me a casting # so I can check

to make sure that they are not too old.
