2013 Trucks Ford or Chevy

Look at a F250 or a 2500 Hd with diesel motors and having a hard time decideing what to get. Are the ford diesel motors and transmission any good? With the ford do you have to lock the huds in manualy when you get the turn dial on the dash? Thanks for the help this will be first truck purchase.

I would look at warranties of each. Try to do a search on the Ford and GM transmission failure rates, Engine warranty issues too.

Also figure in that Ford did NOT take bailout money. I couldnt stomach buying another GM truck after that multi-billion dollar debacle.

I'm running a 2012 F350 4x4 dually for work, 6.7L diesel. It's an impressive truck. You don't have to lock the hubs if you have the dash mount switch, mine have an auto and a lock position (the hubs that is). Good power and good on fuel, mine has service cap in the box (I can stand in it) and rolls down the road weighing 5600kg. I can get about 750km on a tank of fuel (115L ish). Personally I have a Ram 3500 at home and love it as well. The biggest difference if I was towing with both, the engine brake on the Ram is great, the one on the Ford is almost nonexistant. Also DEF is a small cost, maybe $20 every 6-8000 km. Good luck, Sam

My first ford f 250 was a 1971. Diesels since 1984. My last 2010. I have had two cummins dodges and am very happy with them. No problems at all.
The company I work for owns 38 fords 150 - 550. New policy fords with gas engines only diesels must be cummins.

I can't help you with a 2013 truck, but I have a 2000 f250 diesel, the hubs that come with it for the dial 4x4 are crap, I had nothing but trouble with them, one went in the garbage, the other one ingave to my brother. I went and bought warn manual lock hubs, free or lock, never had a problem again. all my other trucks have the stick for 4x4, either manual lock or one chevy with auto lock, they work great too. I hate those vacume ones. My ford engine and tranny have been fine towing a trailer, good luck!

We need an honest answer or what you will really be using the truck for.
The GMC/Chev has a new 1500 with direct injection gassers that will be cheaper per mile than a diesel truck for the next 300,000 miles.
The 2500-3500 direct injection models arrive next fall.
In all honesty 990 out of 1000 pickup owners really need a mid size econo vehicle and a 3500lb 5'X10' landscaping trailer.
Of that 1000, 9 need a HD gasser 1500 with the trailer option.
The last 1 in a 1000 can honestly use the diesel option in a 2500 or 3500.
Ever look into how the EPA messed up the diesel light truck market. The introduction of common rail injection has made injection system service more frequent and expensive.
We could talk about cooled EGR and variable wastegates. The extra costs of oil changes, higher fuel cost per gallon. The more expensive battery, charging system and starter.
Then for a real downer. Lets consider service on a 100,000+ mile diesel with urea injection, particulate filter and cat converter.

I think the two trucks are equally good quality. I have a F250 and farming partner has a 3500 HD, personal preference.

.
I've had them all but not 2013 models. I work them pretty hard and personally I prefer a gasser and a Ford. If you must have a diesel I would pick a Dodge, GM would be my 3rd choice IMO

How big of loads (weight) do you plan on pulling? Truthfully, with the complexity of todays diesels and increased fuel/oil costs i dont know as i would buy another diesel. Ive owned a few dodge diesels and current truck is an 04 chevy duramax, it seems to have been the most trouble free but it is going to need injectors sooner than later. They (diesels) are good trucks but transmissions seem to be more costly for the diesels and heavy engines can take more of a toll on front suspension components. Remember diesels will cost about $10k more for engine/tranny combo and fuel is a dollar more a gallon.

The guys are right, the Auto hubs on the Fords are junk. But you can always lock them in manually. My friend has a new Superduty and the hub trouble was a cumputer board! My trouble is vacaume leak at the hub. I hate to agree with B&D, but he is right. I have drove a eco-boost Ford. It pulls like a diesel. They will surely build a twin turbo, direct injected, Gas motor for F250 and C2500's. I;m waiting. Vic

"Ever look into how the EPA messed up the diesel light truck market."

Bingo.

They are now working on the tractor market.

FORD. For one reason, they are not owned by the government. GM will collapse and your warranty will be worth nothing.

dont know about the diesels as i only own old stuff i can work on without all the emmisions stuff but one thing i have noticed with new trucks my friends buy is you need to pay attention to the ride quality and seats in the new ones, my old dodge seats are worn, but have always been comfortable, boss bought a new 2012 dodge after we used mine on a out of town job for a parts chaser , what a disappointment the fuel millage was half of what my old 12 valve gets and the seats! his is a 1 ton crew cab [ 4 door] the seats are horrible, in thinking i believe the only worse riding seat i have ever sat in was in the cab of a 1958 B model mack years and years ago, i mean these things ride like a rock and hit you in all the wrong places, any trip over a couple miles is a torture ride in that tuck, im 6'4"

I just got back from a 280 mile trip, down with trailer 15.3, back with 3500 lbs 9.4. 2012 Ford F250 4x4
Traded off the 2006 Chevy 3/4 ton and duramax. Wish I didn't.

If I HAD to have a pickup with a diesel I'd go with a cummins.Otherwise a gasser is more than enough.
