OT chevy 1500 with a 6.5L

I have a 3/4 ton Chevy with the 6.5L diesel, the best I have ever gotten is 16mpg. That is during the summer and not hauling or pulling anything. Millage is worse in the winter. Add a load and the millage drops drastically. Pulling my 25 foot gooseneck trailer EMPTY and my millage drops to 10, loaded and then it is 7.5 to 8.

i put 400,000 km. on my 1995 6.5 diesel and it gave 18-19 mpg. had turbo on it also. thats hyway running with no load. hooked to trailer pulling mccormicks and mileage is way down , but thats the way it is with any thing.

just have an eye, not all 1/2tons had a turbo on them. If thats the case, you might as well buy a v8 gas and pull 3 plug wires off, probably have more power than a non turbo 6.5

(quoted from post at 19:12:18 01/07/13) Anyone ever own one what kinda mileage do these get it's a 4x4 probably 3.73 ratio thinking about getting one

I have a heavy 3/4 ton, '97, with 3.73 gears, 4l80E trans and 4X4. F code heavy duty motor. I get 16-19 summer and 14-16 winter. With the 20' gooseneck, 7-12 mpg depending on weight and speed.

Get a '97 or later, unless it has the dual thermostat setup put on it. Better cooling, supposedly.

I like mine, I defend it often. Use it hard, too. Mine's been good to me! -Andy

Not sure about newer ones but 98 I owned ate injector pumps. was in a 3/4 ton, they were under warnty to 100,000, i got one freebe, 2nd owner, not sure before I owned it went twice after that on my dime. after that I just parked it. Google could be helpfull here. Theres lotsa horror stories out there, Mind you I'm sure some will swear by them. Rocko.

Friend has one in the 1/2 ton. He claims over 20 MPG and never tows much with it. Seems to have decent power but it's geared to where in runs about 1700 RPM's at freeway speeds. Daughters father in law has one in a 95 3/4 ton and he claims fairly good mileage.

I got a 94 1/2 ton. One of the very first ones. Mfg date 9-93 on the door. To my knowledge I have never got over 15 mpg. 90% of the time it gets 13 mpg. I have owned it 11 years and check almost every tank.

I have 97 GMC K1500 4X4 with a 5.7 vortec and on open highway gets 20 MPG.and thats running 65- 70 MPH. Moved my daughtery that lives in Indy a few weeks ago and got 13 MPG pulling a 24 foot deckover that weighs 4,200 lbs. empty and a lot of little town to go through on the way down.

I had a 1995 K1500 with the 6.5 turbo diesel. Daily driving I got 20MPG, pulling my 20 foot camper it dropped to around 15. I loved the truck when I was not having problems with the injection pump. Averaged replacing one pump module a year, after remote mounting it to get it away from the heat. Th injection pump was replaced once while I had it, and I went through a couple lift pumps. My opinion they are great for general use but but not for heavy hauling.

That's I'm looking for is something to drive to work that is still a truck that'll get around 20 or better don't need it to pull with have a F350 for that that is diesel currently have a 02 1500 5.3L 4x4 but whoever bought it new put 4.10 in it and it gets 14-15 nothing better it's sad when a 1ton truck gets better mileage then a have ton or like my dad's truck gets the same 1ton Chevy when a 5.7 in it one of the last ones made it's a 2000 old body style

As a side note, if you run Stanadyne fuel additive
in every tank of fuel, you will never have trouble
with the pump. Also had one customer that put over
300k on a pump running ATF in the fuel.
