When my wife was having our fourth child I had to play house Daddy for several days while she was in the hospital recovering from a difficult delivery. My sister would watch the kids while I went to work and then visited my wife/new baby. I then would come back to her house and pick the kids up and go home. Many times the kids would be asleep. So I would have to carry them out to the car one at a time and then carry them in at home too. We had a big station wagon at the time with the three seats. So I carried our third son out and put him in the very back seat. I then carried the other two and put them in the middle seat or normal back seat. When I got home I reversed the kid carrying. Well Bill was not in the back seat when I went to get him. I kind of flipped out for a few minutes. I then called my sister. She did a quick check of her house and found Bill asleep in her formal living room. Where no one usually goes. He had woke back up in the car and went back inside while I was carrying the other two out. So I had to load the other two back up and go back and get him. My sister had to go to work on third shift and no one would have been at her house for Bill to have just stayed there. So I got to drive the 18 miles twice more.

After that I always did a head count of kids before I moved the car for any reason. That few minutes when I could not find him, scared the heck out of me.

Needless to say my Sister still kids me about it to this day. It has been over twenty years ago.

I have a similar story. When my daughter was born (almost 9 years ago) I ran to Orschelns with her one morning. When we got home I just got out of my truck and went inside the house. My then wife asked me "where is Carlie?" I said oh crap and went out to my truck and got her. She was still sleeping. I was a brand new dad and it was an honest mistake.

that is funny,,. brother sub drove a school bus ,, always slip seated at 1st /// when he took a new dedicated route the next year , he deposited all the kids home except for 2 ///a brother and sister , not even 10 , they said they never saw their house and had no idea where they lived or where they were ,,thats what happens when you get on the wrong bus.// jd ,, i thought you were asking about leavin stuff behind on job ,or auction , ,,. when i bought my 1st VAC , it had plow and mower , all sorts of bars and levers to make the 2 bottom plow hook up,.. sadly the autioneer help placed a bunch of misc.angle steel pile rite next to the VAC / plow and mower,.. and i KNOW NOW that some of the key componets got comingled.. if i had bought the steel pile , i would had been able to figure out what was what ..

Times change. I have many pics and some movies labeled "Baby's first outing". Done at my ex's insistence, Daughter is 4 months old, and going out of the housre and yard for the first time. Only thing she (ex) ever did right.

Number one son didn't come home from kindegarten one day. Wife called the school, school called the bus driver, she went back to the bus shed and went in the bus, and there was Brian, still fast asleep in the back seat of the bus, about 3 hours after he got on. Bus driver brought him home in her personal car.

We didn't sue anyone. No harm, no foul. These things happen. I think the driver became more responsible about checking the bus before she left it.

Several years ago when my daughters were still in high school , my X wife went up to the school to pick up the youngest daughter after she was done with bande practice . Well the daughter had walked up to the rear door of the station wagon , opened it & layed her flute on the back seat , then closed the door to open the front door on the passenger side . Well the X was talking to someone on her CB & started off to come home . Well she parked in the garage & got out . As she did she had asked the daughter about her day but didn't get an answer . So she walked around the car , looked outside & looked up toward the house . No daughter . She called me on the phone to ask if she was in the house . Then when I said no , she said - oh my God . Off she raced back to the high school . There stood the daughter , madder than a wet hornet . She didn't live that one down for awhile . God bless, Ken

This one isn't funny: during the past four or five years there have been two separate instances right here in my town where daddys were supposed to have dropped their toddlers off at daycare, but got distracted like guys do. Took the babies to work and left them strapped in the car seat on the parking lot in a Louisiana summer. Neither survived.

Nationwide, no telling how many times this happens.

Friend left his middle boy at a picnic table on the Will Rogers turnpike, discovered missing about 10 miles down the road, found him no problem...

JD Seller,
Don't feel bad. My folks once left one of my brothers behind, after a family reunion in another state! And it was broad daylight and everyone was wide awake.

We got about 15 miles down the road, when the "rellies" came tearing up behind us, honking like crazy - then passed dad and pulled over to the side. Dad got out and asked what was the matter. Uncle said, "You forgot one. We know you have plenty, but thought you still might want him back." Think my folks felt pretty dumb.

On this subject, if you have a child in your backseat, always pile their stuff up onto the front passenger seat. Here the local police wanted me to put the carseat behind the drivers seat.. which I never did.

About the worst thing I did was paying for gas years ago, and leaving without it.

I was driving a Chevette with a bad alternator.
My wife was following me in my Pontiac to charge the battery up at Roy Rogers Restarant. Needless to say, she blew right by me and headed home. Got slightly farther when the battery died. Had to walk to an ancient phone booth and make a call... She was upset I was late with her sandwich!

My oldest brother got left at the shopping center when we went to town when we were kids. We were about 5 miles out of town before I could convince Mom that one of us was missing. I can still see his face when we pulled up to the store and he was sitting on the curb. He didn't start crying until he got in the car.
One time I was cultivating beans about 5 miles from the house it got dark so I parked the 3010 by the road to wait for someone to pick me up.When I shut the tractor off I heard the hum of mosquitoes. I can't stay here. I cranked back up(miracle) and went back to plowing. Very bright moon lit night. About bed time Mom turned to Dad and asked "where's Ronnie?". All Dad would say when he picked Me up was "You sure got a lot done". I think I was about 12 or 13.

Leaving without paying for the gas happened to a frend and me in an airplane.

Level at like 20,000 feet, he say some cuss words and says that he forgot to pay for the fuel. About face, go back, buy more fuel because of the extra flying and off we go. Thank goodness we had no passengers that trip
