Gotta Question about a Farmall H. The tractor is worn, but still usable condition. Recently it has been stalling and it is acting like it is starving for fuel. It started when I was brush hogging and it wasn't that bad, but lately I have to throttle it all the way and keep giving it choke to make it run. What can I start to look at to fix things. It also acts like there is something in the fuel line when it runs and then stops. I have checked the lines to make sure. Please Help.

Probably needs carb rebuilt. Disconnect the fuel line from the carb and check the flow.
 
Have you checked the tank for junk restricting the flow of gas. Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and let it run for a couple of minutes into a can.
 
Trouble shoot before even thinking about throwing ANY part in it. First off when was the last time you cleaned the oil cup on the air cleaner and dumped the dirt and water out of it??? If you have not done it in a long time that could be the problem. Next pull the carb drain plug. Let the fuel flow for a few minutes. Catch the gas so as to look for dirt/water etc. If you do not have a stead y flow gas work your way back till you find where it is clogged. If you have good flow then check your spark it needs to be a blue/white and jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Any one of those 3 could cause a problem like you have. Post back what you find for more help if you need it
 
Start with the simple stuff. Not sure when you last serviced it but change fuel filter(s) if you haven't. At least check if not change air filter. Then if no better move on to fuel lines. Start at carb if you want and work back to tank or vise versa breaking lines where you can and checking flow. Then if no blockage is found post again for more advise. Hope this is helpfull. Rocko.
 
Thank you for the advice. I will check on these things and get back with you all. My dad is also going to check to see how hot it is running for troubleshooting.
 
Think about the tractor model Rocko. It has a air cleaner cup, aka oil bath type. no paper element, probably no fuel filter, just a screen in the sedement bowl. Listen to old on this one vh.
 
Not All that familar with this model of tractor Husker86 and after reading Old post it apears he is more familar and probabley giving much better advice. Although sounds like hes saying pretty much what I said except with more knowledge of this particular model. I was only trying to say DON"T go jumping to conclusion and start rebuilding a carb. Not trying to start a fight but that's sorta what I read into your post, maybe not what you meant either and I'm sure you were trying to be helpfull as was I. Looks like Old was more helpfull than both of us. Rocko.
 
No problem, I took yours as that you didn't know the model well, not trying to be mean, and my post I needed to explain better, I should have said a rebuilt if all else fails and more detail on checking the line. I know what needs done, I have a hard time describing it. I should just read and not advise.
 
Did all tht on my H, still had fuel restriction. Finally unscrewed the fuel sediment bowl, from the gas tank, and on mine there were two small holes in it for a fuel passage, not a straight-thru pipe-opening. (Not describing this very well.) Anyway, inthose two small holes some sediment was stuck, blocking flow. Cleaned it out, and it has worked great ever since.
 
My H acted the same way once.

Turned out to be the vent hole in the fuel cap was plugged. With no venting, a vacuum would eventually build up in the tank causing a loss of fuel flow.
 
Had a deisel pickup used to do the same but oly really notied it when tank got close to empty. Would act like it was outa fuel. Take the cap off and you'd be good for another 5 or so miles. Rocko.
 
Check for a loose intake manifold. Seen that a hundered times cause problems making you thing it is starving for fuel when it was just sucking too much air.
