Love this board and all the fine gents here so willing to help each other, some good advice, some bad, some right, some wrong as rain lol, you pay your money and take your choice and the advice is often times worth just what you paid ZEROOOOOOOOO. Still good hearted and well intentioned Im sure and God Bless all who offer help. I try my best and enjoy helping same as years ago when older gents and uncles etc helped young little pimpled wet behind the ears Johnny lol I figure its payback time for alllll the help I got

Seems like topics that get the most responses are:

1) An Electrical Question, everyone including myself crawls out of the woodwork with tons of opinions and advice, now why is that? PS Does Billy Bob and his know it all brother in law Bubba (wired their home over a case of beer now EXPERTS) ring a bell lol Love that reference, I think it was our friend the good Buick Man who started that

2) Legal Question, now those reallyyyyyyy bring out the troops (yep including yours truly lol, Im guily)

3) Weather related questions, always lots of responses

4) Location questions, always fun to hear where yall are from

5) GUNS, wow FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT LOL AND POOF

6) Politics (see above) POOF

Other topics that draw out the troops???

God Bless yall here, farmers ranchers and tractor folks are for the most part salt of the earth down home traditional God fearin gents in my opinion

Ol John T

One tht you missed, John, and one that always starts a lively discussion is what is the best tractor for such and such, the best tractor of such and such HP, the best tractor of such and such era, etc.

Happy new Year.

Dean

P.S. There is a sometimes lively politics forum on the *board that you might like. Cannot link here but *=N (N series Ford tractors). The board is specifically for vintage Fords but the Politics Forum is provided for political discussions. There are no poofs unless one becomes profane or otherwise excessively uncivil.

What tractor is the best for my needs? that one usually gets a LOT of answers. Best way to get one going is to tell someone they are wrong, that usually seems to work.

In my opinion, this forum is like the coffee shops we have breakfast in when we visit the USA. 4 men round 1 table, the topics cover a huge range of things and create laughter, argument, the exchange of information, where to get the best deal, where to borrow a chainsaw and a million other things. Sometimes tempers are raised, mostly they are not, just 4 guys having coffee. This is the worlds best on-line coffee shop! Thanks especially to the people who run the forum and to everyone else for letting me and my wife join in. Best wishes for the New Year from Pat and Phil

You forgot the "What size plow (undercutter, cultipacker, doll house, you name it) will my tractor pull?" line of questioning. Those are usually fun to sit and watch. The speculation as to soil type, tractor condition, and what your cousin did in 1976 makes for interesting entertainment. Zeke usually ends up with such an array of answers that he is more confused.

I won't even bring up the perrils of today's gasoline on old equipment.

Seems like anything that we're not supposed to talk about gets the most responses since they don't require knowledge, just opinion, and God knows we've all got one. Everybody knows the post will get skilleted, but wants to have their say before it all gets whacked.
I'd include opinions of what has become of a certain brand as one that gets a lot of opinion responses, but then, that fits in the religion catagory,so,again,we're not supposed to talk about it. lol

Always fun to hear of those things that can't be done that a feller has been doing for 50 years.
Even more interesting when the person saying that it can't be done after a while posts (Wish me Happy Birthday I am fifteen today)

World wide blind net. :)^D

A picture and a story about a dog is always good for a smile or a tear.

Photos of just about anything. And while most won't come right out and say, we all enjoy a photo of a pretty woman.

As for the fights over politics or religion, I don't mind them---enjoy them in fact----because these are family "discussions". Everybody on here has so many things in common it's not like you're arguing or debating with some slug on a Yahoo comment board.

How about this?

I always enjoy the responses we get here, no matter what the subject. Besides, if it's something that doesn't interest you, don't click on it. Actually one topic that never seems to run out of responses is "What's something you did that you wished you hadn't" or something similar. The beauty of that one is we all create new responses for the question every day!

Don't forget that one from a few days ago with the X LOL.
It also depends on the time of year. Seem that things like gardens in the spring get a good number but gardens in the winter almost none.
And then there are the ones that seem to bring out the ones who want the fight those get a heck of a lot of posts to them

Two other forums I check out, gmo crops and should I try to rent my neighbors land bring long, long chain of replies.....

And specifically as to electrical questions, the age-old debate about neutral vs. ground, bonding them or not bonding them in the box, etc., etc. I have pledged never to reveal the secret of installing a ground rod in rocky soil- pound it in as far as you can, cut off the excess with a hacksaw, then pound on it some more to obiterate the saw marks.

And of course, the "my Chinese tool sucks more than your Chinese tool" discussions.

Debates about Neutral and Ground you say Mike??? Where?????? Gee I never saw any of those here lol lol

Actually there IS NOT MUCH OF ANY DEBATE among Professional Electricians Techs and Engineers and the NEC, its the Billy Bobs and Bubbas who may be doing it wrong or fail to understand the concepts and get all bent outa shape and wanna debate cuz themselves and their grandfatherse did it that way for years and it works SO THEY ARE RIGHT AND THE NEC (actual Experts) ARE WRONG LOL

Take care Counsellor

"Best paint to use" used to get a lot but got beat to death and hardly gets answered anymore. ALSO , and the one that makes me sick to see posted at all is "WHAT DOES "RESTORED" REALLY MEAN????? Usually see it in the winter when everyone is bored to death and want to see a feud.

Another way to get POOFED is to volunteer to help out people in need (Knee Replacements etc.). Even if you are willing to do it for nothing or next to nothing! Watch it now here it comes........

Phill That is just about my take on this board.. Lots of good conversation and ever now and then some good information.

I was already thinking along similar lines when I read Phil Scarborough's comment. This site reminds me of when I was a young man and would hang around the gas station a friend ran. There was a group of about eight or ten regulars that would come by, (seldom all would be there at one time) They would sit around and discuss everything from politics to women.(Actually that seemed to be the two most popular subjects.LOL) Came from all walks of life. There was a truck driver, an insurance salesman, a man who had retired from the navy, one of the best front end alignment and suspension men who ever lived, and others. Made for some very interesting and lively conversations. I was in my twenties then, I mostly just listened. They were all "experts" I was just learning.

I would add any topic with "vs." in the middle. Especially if it's a green tractor vs. a comparable red tractor for instance!

I always enjoy the ones who ask for medical advice on this antique tractor forum. BTW I have a green wart on my right ear and a red wart on my left ear and wonder why they aren't the same color and when I can expect it to go away.

Nervous habitttttttttt lol

I knew a kid once who repeated the last word of every sentence sentence.

Any topic where there might be more than one opinion, there's a possibility of trouble. Two or more opinions and it starts looking like a session of Congress.

Once upon a time, people in this country used to search for common ground. Now they choose up sides and have a flippin' brawl.

Ah well...It's cold outside, and cabin fever is setting in.

In reply to your comment of this site vs local coffee shop:
1. Saves gas
1a. Don't have to get out in bad weather.
1b. Coffee is actually good, and fresh.
2. Don't have to be in town at a certain town
3. Don't have to get dressed
4. Don't have to look at the same boring faces daily
5. Get to interface with someone that possibly has some sense
6. Get real help with problems......sometimes
7. Get a broad response base so you can get an argument going
8. Get to boast your method or equipment is best
9. Get to brag about your geological location which is best
10. Get to learn about other equipment and ways others do it
11. How's that for starters?

Now the above is my opinion and the way I see it and obviously is the only way to look at the subject. If you think your way is better keep it to yourself......LMAO.

Have a great New Year.
