I was given an Ithica 12 gauge not to long ago and someone had put camo tape on the barrel. The tape is now falling off and leaving the glue on the barrel. Anyone have a trick to remove this glue or should I just go find some special tape for the barrel? thanks guys and merry christmas! ~Anthony

regular rubbing alcohol works really well. Or de-natured alcohol if you prefer. Used this in the appliance business to remove glue residue from shipping tape.

WD40 actually does a good job of this, put it on leave it for a few minutes and wipe it off with a clean cotton rag. It might take 2 applications, but the main thing is it won't eat the finish. Other wise, take off the furniture, and strip it with lacquer thinner. Faster, but an outside option. Jim

Lacquer thinner would be my first choice too.
Easy enough to remove the barrel from the stock too. (or is it the other way around?)
That would avoid messing up the finish on the wood.

I have used Goop and acetone, finger nail polish remover, with good results for removing adhesives.

Zippo (or any other brand for that type of lighter) lighter fluid.
Takes off glue, chewing gum from carpets or hair and most other sticky messes.
Doesn't hurt most finishes.
It will irritate tender skin if not washed off within a few minutes.
Washes off with plain old soap and water.

First you pump the shotgun as if you were chambering a round. Then there is a knerled ring at the front of the front stock that you loosen and then just turn the barrel 90 degrees to the right looking at it from the bottom and the barrel will lift out.

(quoted from post at 04:09:55 12/26/12) Carb and choke cleaner, or break kleen, or maybe rubbing
alcohol,!!

Carb and choke cleaner will be way to aggresive and will probably remove the original finish as well as the adhesive.

Rubbing alcohol is the tool of choice.

If all else fails and you don't care about the finish on the stock, acetone. Had to use that to get lettering off of a stock trailer when nothing else would work.

I second the "Goo Gone". Use it all the time for adhesive residue and decals.

I've used this stuff for years and haven't wrecked anything yet. Great for getting price tags off plastic packages without melting the plastic. Has a citrus smell to it too.

It 's supposed to work on gum and other stuff too, but I use it mostly for sticker stuff.
