Bad Day at Monmouth.

I woke up around 8 as usual walked into the living room and found my 87 year old wife lying on the floor she not very responsive couldn't tell me how she got there and couldn't get up. I call 911 they were out in no time and took her to the hospital. I finnished my coffe took all my meds and proceeded to head to Salem to the hospital about half way I felt the truck slowing down then I heard a tire on the rear go flop flop, took a look in the mirror and saw pieces of tire flying all over the place. The tire literally discintergrated in seconds had to call my ins to get towed back home where I keep my spare ( don't ask) got it changed headed back to Salem arrived at the hospital to find my wife not doing to well. I was told all sorts of bad things they sent in a woman to talk to us, she wanted me to put my wife in a home at $150 a day. Bummer I cried a lot that about that. Told he lady I couldn't afford that and wanted my wife to go home with me. After many hours and all the test and a bottle something for her dehydration she was perked up and back to normal which is for an 87 year old woman. The doctor said I could take her home. Made the lady mad but my friend had showed up and helped me bring her home. She was very tired but satup and talked for a while then sat in her big chair and went to sleep. This moring she had moved to her own bed and I had to wake her up at 9 to take her meds. So far so good my friend Victor will be home right after Xmas to help us. It's going to be rough but I'm going to keep at home for as long as I can. Wish me luck.

Walt,

I'm so sorry for the situation that you find yourself in. I know that sometimes it's impossible to stay at home, but I support and admire your decision to keep her at home.

Hang in there friend and just do the best that you can.

Wishing you the best of luck with her.
Did she get up for something overnight and fall down?? I wonder if there would be anything you could to find to alert you if she got up overnight for some reason??.

I definitely wish you both the best of luck.
Particularly nice to have her home for the holidays.
I hope she's back to normal very quickly.

Walt, I sincerely hope better days are ahead for both of you, not an easy thing to comprehend or deal with.

Walt,
Our best of wishes are sent your way. If Hospices is available when your need reqiures; they are great, and will assist you with quality home care. They were great during Dad's crisis, last winter before he passed in March. Hope you don't get to that point for years to come!!
Loren, the Acg.

Walt, Best wishes for your wife and you. I would have done the same thing, I would want to go home not stay in a hospital.
Best of everything to you both!
Andrew

Check into Hospices NOW, even if you don't need it now. About the same story with my MIL. Lived 1 1/2 years at home with Hospices and it didn't cost us a dime.

Thanks guys I hope to have many more years with my wife but things have been going down hill as late. Her mother was 91.
The last women who lived in my old house were 96 and 91 that gives me hope.
I haven't cried so much since dog died many years ago.

Best of wishes to you and your wife Walt. Try to keep her down until she feels better and can navigate through the house on her own, without another accident.
As someone else mentioned, don't hesitate to get help if you need it. There are visiting nurses and hospice who can come and help with a lot of her needs and freeing you up to spend more time on the computer and whatever else you want to do. Get in touch with your local Senior Citizen office and they can tell you about all the free help you can get. If she wants a hospital bed, walker, wheelchair, bathroom needs, they can steer you in the right direction to get it done. Don't be afraid to use it, you paid for it all these years. Now, don't be afraid to take in your later years instead of giving, like you've done all your life.
Best of Christmas wishes to you and your wife,
Dick
