OT- Bald Eagles

I drive over the Conowingo Dam daily. It's normal to see many bald eagles there now but I get a real charge out of it every day. Back in my 70's high school days, there were basically 2 known pairs in all of MD and that was down near Chincoteague. Here's a nice web site to take a look at http://darkroom.baltimoresun.com/2012/12/bald-eagles-are-star-attraction-at-conowingo-dam/#1

Darned funny you should mention that. I was just out with a load of manure about 20 minutes ago and saw one fly over. Only the second one I've seen.

About 6-7 years ago, my kids were riding on the school bus and the bus driver stopped at pointed at a deer carcass lying in the field. There were over 15 bald eagles all having breakfast at the same time. Unlike today, none of the kids or the buss driver had a phone that took pictures. During the winter, I see quite a few of them around dead deer.

After harvesting a deer there was an eagle feasting on the gut pile the next day. 2 crows were in the trees watching.

We see them everyday here in east central WI. Last year there were over 50 sitting around open water looking for fish to surface. That was quite a sight, tried to take pics but too far away for my camera on the phone.

Enjoy them while you can ! For years a little old farmstead just about a mile from me (I pass) twice a day to and from doing chores at the other place. There were 6 Eagles in a couple of big old trees , 5 wild turkeys in the edge of the timber in lower branches and 7 vultures usually sitting on the roof of an OLD barn. The property changed hands, 6 or 8 100yr + oaks dozed out and shoved in a pile in the edge of the timber (still there looks like a salvage dump), Old barn burned for days, full of old hay and straw, black smoke for MILES. They are absentee farmers I guess you might say, only see them around for a very few days per year. Oh well, Guess they added about 1.5 acres to there welfare check. Hope the bill for the damage will be paid in Hell someday.

Just last week someone reported 14 in one tree at Lake Manawa State Park-which is just south of Council Bluffs Iowa! I went Thursday, and 3 were flying! Incredible birds!

I can see two pairs from my window in north central Missouri. They like to sit in a couple big Oak trees on the neighbors place, and stare at the Amish....
