my nephew on leave from the navy for christmas, was driving home from ca, while he's still young relitivly, he was raised right and has a head on his shoulders, if he didnt, the navy put one there for him, anyway, had a nice red 4x4 stepside chevy built just like the song, something fell off the seat onto the floor, in a brief 'teen moment' he reached to pick it up, in a lifted short bed traveling at 70+ , barrel rolled it 4 times, completely destroying the truck, i mean nothing is savable , lucky he walked away with only minor cuts and bruises, the truck landed on its wheels, 3 of them anyway, and the cab c pillars were saved by the roll bar , seat belts kept him from being ejected, lesson of the day, if something falls on the floor, leave it there! until you stop , then get it

We all know you shouldn't grab things like that, but when it happens you just kinda do it automatic without even thinking.
Just like a few months ago I was sharpening mower blades. Plopped one onto the bench and it started to fall. Yep you gussed it I automatically grabbed for it ! Stupid move for sure ! Lucky I only got a minor cut.

Gotta agree Mike, at my age should know better but been many an occasion when driving, using table saw or like you using grinder where I caught myself doing same, some times minor cuts some times I get away with it completely but think afterwards how dumb a move it actually was. Just curious, were you wearing safety glasses at the time. I recently gota barb from grinder wire brush stabbed in my eye, lucky again as eye has been healing miracously well. Gogles of coarse hanging easily with in reach. Aparently not as old or wise as I would like to think I am. Eric glad to hear your nephew walked away from it, he was lucky too. Fact is most accidents are caused by human error, don't be to hard on him, ain't only youth or inexperience that caused this. We all screw up, some times it all comes down to luck. Rocko.

I wear eyeglases now all the time. Before the glasses I was pretty good about grabbing a pair of saftey glasses for at the grinder, wire wheel and working with snap rings.

About a month ago we had two young couples that were traveling at a high rate of speed and hit a tree. The couple in the front seat were ejected from the car and were killed. The couple in the back seat were seriously injured and flown to a shock trauma unit. The car hit the tree so hard it split the car in half. Hal

Quit drinking in 1984. Dropped cigarette, landed over on passenger floorboard, picked it up and pulled myself up by pulling on the steering wheel, Did a 180, going back the way I was coming from.

Wearing Seatbelts is a good habit!! I find myself strapping to drive my truck in my yard!
Just a habit I don't want to break.

When I drove for FedEx Home Delivery, they made sure that we knew we were to be buckled in! My truck you could not reach the floor, just the pedals from the seat. If you were knocked out of the seat, you would have no control of anything. I always have, and plan to always buckle up! Glad your nephew is OK!

lol nope this truck was built like the song about a girl in a big ol truck big chrome steel bumpers red stepside 10 feet tall, 10 feet wide, or something to that effect, lots of time and money in that thing at least it wasnt scraping the ground with motorcycle tires under it lol

yes were glad to have him back safe trucks can be replaced humans cant, nephew and my son are both in the navy, son is stationed in main right now, nephew is in ca, sea bees and fixing to deploy to Afghanistan when he gets back to the base
