Fencing Knoledge?

Im helping my brother in law fence his back yard. I fenced about an acre of mine 5 years ago. Hes using bigger post and 2x4 welded wire, I used hog wire. We are using horizontial bracing on the corners. Two questions. How should we attach the bracing to 5 1/2 post? A lag bolt through thew post to the brace or screws angled from the brace into the post? And how to inter-twine two ends of wire fence?

You can pre drill a hole about halfway thru your
corner post and another several inches up the
center end of your brace. Insert a pin into the
end hole of your brace. It should stick out a few
inches from end of brace. Pre drill another hole
all the way thru your brace post. Lift brace and
put pin sticking out of end into hole in corner
post. Hold the other end of brace up against brace
post. Insert another pin thru the drilled hole in
brace post and hammer excess into end of brace
leaving about and inch still exposed. For high
tensile you would then instal bracing wire. Here
is a link that can explain it better then me its
about halfway down the page.

For the horizontal, I used 10 or 12 inch galvanized spike nails. Drilled through the corners and a little into the horizontal. Quick and easy.

When joining two runs of fence, I cut the last vertical off each and hand twisted each horizontal together, every four inches. I do have one of the crimpers.

I always used a short piece of #8 or 9 brace wire (barbed wire will work) run under the brace (stapled on each side) with the ends stapled to the post. To join 2 pieces of wire together, tie a loop in one; run the other through the loop and tie it back on its self.

This is the method I use and I use 6-9 inch pieces of rebar for pins. Clean , neat and no split wood for water to enter.

I usually use steel pipe with a plate welded on each end with holes to drive nails through, or the angle steel braces and 2 strands of barb wire or no.9 twisted above and below the cross brace

I just completed a 18000' project, but have done about 25000' of this fencing. The wire is a 2x4 Horse fence or known as Max tight, etc etc. It is not welded, but has a knot. I had to replace all my 2x4 welded after three years because it came un-welded. The best way is to put the pins in as posted below. You can also use three inch screw and toe screw two of them in each end. E-mail if you need more photos. I'm just a Rancher/Farmer, but have done several power points for groups on building barns and fences.

I bought 5" and 8" 3/8" bolts in bulk. I cut the heads off for the corner post pin and left the head on for the end post. I like Gordos idea of using re-rod. Cheper yet.

I second the pipe. I do the same thing. Braces made out of wood rot out in a much shorter time. My neighbor used wood for braces 7 years ago, now redoing them. Seems to be a slow learner, using wood again.

I use metal brace. top rail or whatever. on the wood I drill a pilot hole and use lag bolts leaving about 1" or so out slide pipe over the bolts on each side..One of the post has to be solid and you measure the other one and install the lag then pipe over lag then tamp post in ground. As soon as you to the wire rigging it tightens right up.
