We were talking about Lassie the other day on here. I never realized there was such an overlap between Jeff and Timmy. There was an episode on this afternoon with both of them in it. Timmy was living with Jeff, his mother and Gramps. He called Jeff's mother Aunt Ellen. So he must have been Jeff's cousin. It wasn't the episode where Gramps died and Timmy got adopted by the couple who bought the farm.

I think I've got the Beverly Hillbillies down, but the Real McCoys are still a bit of a mystery.

That's what happened. He was an orphan of sorts. I saw the episode this past Sunday. Somehow Timmy was staying with Jeff, his mother Ellen, and Gramps apparently. The show began with Jeff and his mother having a wake in their home because Gramps died. Somehow, when Gramps died, that meant that Timmy had to go live with some aunt and uncle that didn't want him because Jeff and his mother wanted to sell the farm and move to Capitol City. Anyway, long and short of it, they sold the farm to the Martins whom wanted to adopt a child because they couldn't have a child, and they adopted Timmy after he found out he was going to have to move in with the mean aunt and uncle that didn't want him, and nearly drown in a river while running away, but was found floating face down by Mr. Martin, whom revived him while Lassie kept barking, because Lassie barks an awful lot. And since Timmy was crying, Jeff gave Lassie to Timmy, that way Timmy would stop crying, and did, and Lassie could stay on the big farm and live happily ever after, until some forest ranger came along somewhere, maybe with color TV, and Lassie ran away with him?

This one was prior to that. Gramps was alive and well. Lassie pulled Timmy's tooth and lost it. He was all upset, afraid the tooth fairy wouldn't leave him a quarter. Ellen wanted to put a quarter under his pillow and tell him they found the tooth, put it under his pillow and the fairy came. Gramps wouldn't have any part of lying to him,so Jeff went out in the barn with a lantern and found the tooth,so he got his quarter. Had me on pins and needles,I was afraid Jeff would set fire to the barn with the lantern.

Oh, I think there were a lot with Gramps. It seems to me that I remember a Gramps, but I'm not sure. I think he used to wear a hat and vest a lot? Maybe smoked a pipe or cleaned it a lot? But I think he used to be on a lot, until last Sunday. Last Sunday they really messed things up for Gramps. Last Sunday was a violent day in the life of Lassie. In one show they killed the guy that owned Lassie so Jeff could have him. Then they killed Gramps. They almost killed Timmy. And, they finally killed Lassie. I'm glad I didn't see any of those episodes when I was a kid.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, even though it's more PC now, but 'Lassie' was actually 'Laddie'. Cross dresser????

Jeff and Gramps were on it for years. In fact, the name of the show wasn't Lassie at that time,it was Jeff's Collie.

Sadly, the Real McCoys were no mystery to me. It was past my bedtime, so the next morning, the hired man would recite everything that happened, almost verbatim (punctuated with peals of laughter, of course, at the "funny parts"), while we were milking. Seemed like it took him almost as long as the show took on TV. I remember he'd sometimes get "big Luke" and "little Luke" mixed up, which necessitated going back and going through a bunch of it again. As John T would put it, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I came to hate that show, and I don't believe I ever even saw it.
