I need to get into a tight spot with a horse trailer. The trailer is usually pulled with my Dodge 3500 duley. So can I use my F 150, and attach a ball to the stock bumper? I need to travel less than a 1/2 mile. It will have just have one horse, Thanks for any info. Leading the horse out is not a possibility what so ever. Stan

Don't know how big the trailer is, but with only one horse, for that short distance, I sure don't see any problem. Biggest problem with towing with too small a truck is the weight of the truck in relation to weight of the trailer- resulting in the trailer pushing the truck around. Most any truck will have enough power to pull a trailer with only one horse.

is there any way you could get the dually in there? because i dont think there would be any safe way to move it without the ball in the bed without doin some permanent mods to the f 150. and it wouldnt be good for a temporary fix to break in that half mile, especially with an animal on the trailer

Chances are if it's bumper pull and only had one horse, the average 1/2 ton will cope with it for 1/2 a mile.

Most bumper pull trailers are "half ton towable" anyways.

Well if it is a bumper pull type that is not say a 4 plus horse size you should be just fine with that flimsy factory bumper. As in a 2 horse size trailer not one of them ones with the sleeping quarters and holds 4 plus horse

What is the trailer????? I pulled a ten foot stock trailer with two horses in it up and down 15% grade for a few years with a CJ5 Jeep. Worked, but won't try that again. Moved a full size Bull once with snow on the driveway, but the Jeep couldn't pull it, so I used the IHC WD9 until I got to the top of the hill. Got a photo some place.

My '06 F-150 is rated for 5,000 lb trailer using the bumper. It'll tow more, but not without a dedicated hitch.

(quoted from post at 14:35:52 12/20/12) Had two Ford 1/2 tons. The bumper hitch has a 5,000lb pull and a 500lb. max. tongue weight rating.

The last I knew Ford half ton bumper pulls were as stated in the quote.

Just one horse? for less than 1/2 mile? Leave the trailer and truck parked. Either ride the horse or lead it.

I know a fella who pulls a 25' Gooseneck and Backhoe with an F-150..
The Hoe picks the rear of the truck off the ground and shacks it like wet dog when loading it..!!
360 with truck trans..Manual..

Re-read the post- he says leading the horse is not an option, so I'm assuming riding isn't, either- horse is apparently not broke.

Although if the horse isn't even broke to lead, wondering how you're going to get it in the trailer.

Just wonderin'.

A guy I know told me a while back his new f150 with that new 6 banger they put in it is rated for 15-16 thousand lbs. He said it was rated for more than my chev HD 2500. Ya right, I didn't bother to respond. Well, according to him, you should be able to put a few horses in that trailer and pull it with your F150.

You should be just fine if its a bumper pull trailer...i had a 97 4x4 f-150 which i pulled a 18 ft equipment trailer with a John Deere A, Farmall H, 1/4 scale case traction engine and a Crosby two seat car...ur good

I onst got into an argument with a feller about hauling trailers.

He said thet I coulden't haul his flatbed trailer loaded with a Farmall M and a Ford 8n with my '89 Ford F-150 4WD.

I woulda won ceptin my step bumper was a mite rusty and fell off before we could git em hitched up.

Yer buddy,

Brad :)

Go for it. 1/2 ton, 1 horse, not a big deal. I hauled 3 or 4 tons of fertilizer in a buggy years ago behind a toymotor pickmup on the bumper. You'll be fine....

Assuming it's a bumper pull... should be OK as long as you can get under the hitch. That will probably flatten the 150 down a bit tho. Is there a reason you can't back in with the ton?
