Fellas and gals---I have 8 tractors and can change all the fluids and do maintenance and am not afraid to tackle most work.

I am trying to put on of those KATZ Heaters on this Detroit Diesel --late 60's 70's engine---353.
LJD even sent me a pic of how his is hooked up.

I see where the top hose goes up near the thermostat----I CAN'T find where to hook the bottom hose near the bottom side of the engine. I can't even find where a guy could drain the block--there should be a petcock type of thing there. Just need a little more help thankyou.

The air boxes are down where a four stroke"s block water jacket would be.
I used an immersion heater in my 2-53. Bolts on in place of a plate on the front left block near the deck.
The port you are looking for is surprisingly high and close to the block deck.

Maybe this will help you out. I have worked for Detroit Diesel for 28 years. Have learned my way around the engines. The picture shows a 4-53 but the 3-53 is the same.
