Job Hunting

Had an interview yesterday. Thought it went well. Lasted 1 1/2 hours. Interview was with 3 managers at the same time. I would become a department head and setting up all standards and working with other dept. A lot of work, but may be very rewarding. It is a new company and will have the option to buy into the company and become part owner. Start out working out of the house and tele-comute. Will be able to baby sit the tractors so they don't get stolen. Tractor related. LOL.

rustacres,

Working from home works well for a lot of people, but I was a total failure at it. I just didn't have the discipline to stick with it.

The cat had to be fed. I had to check the mail. The trash barrels needed to be set out by the street. I had to fix lunch. The telemarketers needed to be talked to on the phone. I needed to go get some more paper for the printer. The exterminator came and I had to talk to him. Etc. Etc.

After about two months, I went back the office permanently.

Good luck with the results of your interview.

The working from home will only be temp until they hire more and the need for a physical office becomes more urgent. I hope it goes good.

rustacres SD,

Wishing you success!

Working from home is nice... I just log my work hours to stay disciplined.

However, if you are not sucessful... try sending the following letter that I saw in the Digest (with a humor disclaimer added at the end, of course):

I DECLINE YOUR REJECTION
This purported rejection of a rejection slip from an academic organization has been making the rounds online:

"Despite your university's outstanding qualifications and previous experience rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at this time. Therefore, I will assume the position of assistant professor in your department this August. Good luck rejecting future applicants."

(Totally cracked me up... because I got the big rejection letter from the county last year after applying and interviewing for an administrative assistant position.)

I work from home - been doing it for years now. It was tough at first, but you learn to do it.

I've found the more of an "official" office environment you can set up for yourself, the better off you'll be.

I built an office in my basement and only go upstairs for lunch. I made it as office-y as I could - plants and all.

I chose the basement for the lack of windows - if I see the sun shining, I'll want to go play with tractors.

Tried keepking a tv in here to stay up with the news - big mistake. That's gone now.

Now if I could just lock myself out of sites like ths I might actually be productive.
