storing guns

I just put a very, very light film of oil on mine and store in a heated location to prevent rust. Rust is #2 enemy, #1 is politicians.

You can put a light film of oil on them. I have a Golden Rod in mine that keeps the safe and guns dry . You could also hang a 20 watt bulb inside the safe and it will do about the same thing.

I put in a pair of boot dryers in my safe......30 years ago and they keep the safe inside dry. 30 years and they're still working. Constantly on. Imagine that.

A little off topic and not meaning to steal the thread, but I was in the local gun shop this afternoon and man was it packed. The parking lot was completely full and everyone was parking in a lot across the road. I bet there were 30 people just on the semi-automatic assault weapon isle. Guess they want to buy before they get banned.

They are a electric heater that gives off just enough heat to keep safe & guns warm enough so they don't rust. They are rod thats about 16" long and about 3/4" in diameter and painted gold. You mount them on the wall of safe about 10" up off of floor of safe. I have had mine for over 20 years. I think they still make them.

Its a heating rod that is put inside a cabinet or gun safe. It is a small amount of heat is produced to dry he air inside of the safe area to lower the humidity. link below.

GOLDEN ROD

The Golden Rod is still made. Golden Rod A Division of Buenger Enterprises,Inc. Oxnard, Calf. Phone 1-800-451-6797.

Light gun oil on the metal be careful not to get it on the wood. Use a good furniture polish that is hand rubbed on the wood very, very lightly.Or nothing which is sometimes better.
Keep in a place with good ventilation in a dry place in the house. To little moisture can dry out the wood and it will crack. I keep mine in a closet and above the mantle never had any problem even in this cold wet climate. Take down and wipe them every now and then don't handle the metal without gloves.

It would depend on what finish is on the wood. If it has a oil finish you could annually put linseed or tung oil on it and between use lemon oil or gun oil. If it has a chemical coating I would use Johnson Paste Wax annually and furniture polish between.

'net reports this all over. 400 waiting in line outside Cinncinati gun show at all times Sat.
