diesel return line to tank leak....

The portion of the return line that attaches to the top rim of the tank is shot.
When i went to get some rubber fuel line old timer at parts store said to use plastic as the diesel would kill the rubber real quick.
So do i use the plastic stuff they sell for inside chainsaw gas tanks?
Tks
Pete

Yeah, he"s right - I had an emergency weekend repair like that on a return line. All I had handy was windshield washer hose. Didn"t last long, turned soft and needed replacing. This time, asked for fuel line hose. So far, holding nicely.

Plastic may work fine, but not sure how it will hold up to vibration. My local John Deere mechanic encouraged me to use specific purpose rubber hose to replace the braded hose on my 2002 JD 6420. He shared the OEM braded hose does not hold up to diesel (he had reportedly replaced many) and the acceptable replacement is to use rubber hose designed for diesel fuel. The parts counter had it in stock: Bulk Hose, TY22560.

Exactly describes the hose i am taking off.
Dark yellow/brown. Hard and thin.
Kinks and cracks.
The vinyl line i bought was too small.
As i need to use hoe too day i used some hard, thick walled plastic hose i had.
It was from a oil extractor used to take oil samples. Bought it from the oil analysis firm Blackstone a few years ago.
Installed it with a 4" loop in the line to keep it flexible. No leaks
