i changed the oil in my car(right next to the tractor)and on my next trip to town it did not shift so good--i stopped at one place and after that it wont shift out of low gear and the speedo didnt work either--any thoughts on whats going on? 2001 whith a auto tranny -- thanks for now!!

Is this WAAAAy too obvious or am I missing the connection ? You said "I changed the oil in my car" Should you not be focasing on the transmission and NOT engine. My only thought might be if you jacked the car up with your jack/lift under the center or trans area maybe you bent one of the linkage rods that control shift points.

It depends on the year, and whether a 3 speed or 4 speed. On the older 125C 3 speeds, the speedo gear was situated on top of the governor. When the governor gear stripped out(nylon), the governor quit spinning, which would cause the car not to shift, and also the speedometer to not turn. If it is that trans, the governor is located under a 2 or 3 bolt cap right on top of the tranny. It can be pulled right out to check the gear. Typically that would happen in cold weather after the gear got old and brittle. If it's a slightly newer trans, the cap over the governor might have some wires going to it that may have accidentally come unplugged while working under the hood. The Cavaliers are old enough I doubt they used speed sensors, but all my reference books are at work so I couldn't be sure without looking it up. I work in a tranny shop. If you want, e-mail me and I'll give you our toll free number.
