anybody know how much a 3,000 bushel bin weighs?

was thinking i could move one a short distance on a 7k car car hauler if it wasn't too heavy

thanks

Should be fine, height is the problem, and stability you need to support more than just the 6 feet the trailer catches with cross planks, but weight won't be an issue.

Timber across the top hole put chain over timber and clamp it down hard to the trailer.

I have hauled 18' by 7 rings grain bins w/roof on my 16 foot car trailer with no problem. In fact I haul them upright with the bottom 3 - 4 rings taken off and slid in under the bin on the floor of the trailer. Move them down the road early Sunday morning. Most trips have been 35 to 70 miles. I try to stay on gravel roads if possible. Don't even know they are back there. Bins are supported by three bridge planks going across the trailer.

I checked literarture in my files...that size...3 different brands, averaged 3176 lbs. I've moved at least 6 bins, from 1400-6000 bu. Secure them so they don't slide sideways on the trailer....anchoring just to the roof is not enough. Mount a 2x4 up the front side of the roof, over the roof, down the back- so low-hanging wires don't snag. SCOUT THE ROUTE. Here, most REA lines have the ground as the lower one, and 22 feet clearance on County and most twp roads. High bins, split horizontally, midway up, then one vertical split on the lower half, pull it inside the bin and bolt it to the upper half when lowered onto the trailer.
