O/T Honor Guard

Dad's funeral was yesterday, and having retired from the Army Reserve, we asked for an Honor Guard. I was blown away!!! A flag covered the casket, which was folded and given to my sister, a three-volley salute and taps. If you have participated in an Honor Guard I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I made sure I shook each participant's hand and said "Thank You." If you have a loved one eligible for an Honor Guard by all means request it. You won't regret it.

I have been to a couple of funerals where the Honor Guard was there, quite a remarkable thing to see. It will bring a tear to your eye for sure. When I think of the sacrifices they made for all of us, I salute all Veterans.

My son did that duty for 2 years. He and the squad felt that it was a priviledge to serve the troopers who passed on.

When dad died , many years ago, mom did not have them fire the gun salute as dad had told her he had enough guns shooting over him in France. It was so frigid cold when my brother died that I did not request the gun salute. Had taps and flag folding for both.

I agree with the comments above, when my father died a local American Legion did the honors and they were impressive. One of the Honor Guard did a short talk on the procedure, including an explanation of the significance of the tri-fold of the United States flag.

Very heart warming, and thank you to those who perform this service.

Thanks
Rich

Both my grandfathers had that performed at their funeral services, 21 gun salute, I think it was 7 old timers firing 3 rounds each. Incredible to say the least. My one grandfather that died 15 years ago was a WW2 officer, lots and lots of vets showed up for that funeral. 20 years from now there will be no WW2 vets left.

I stood Honor Guard at many military funerals wearing ODs with Ike jackets, shiny brown boots and helmit liners using '03 Springfields. Always an honor and a priviledge to help say: "Farewell and Well Done".

Again, sorry for your loss Larry.
I wish I could have thanked him in person for his service.
Every time I had the privilege to server in an honor guard, that's
what it felt like I was doing.
Paying respect and saying thanks to a fallen comrade and his family
for their sacrifice.
May we never forget.
