what do you think guys, better or worse for part supply,equipment/tractor costs, quality etc? here we could always get parts for our old fords pretty easily ( but expensively )from the dealers. i wonder if that will continue.

Jack,

Has something happened recently with New Holland / Fiat? I think that Fiat bought some 80% of Ford / New Holland back in the early 1990s.

New Holland is a world-wide company with many partnerships with many different companies.

Has something changed?

I do repair work on tractors for Farmers in my area, The majority of the tractors are Masseys but there does be the ocassional Ford...Last week I had a 7610 come in with absolutely no electrics working...long story short...Some other guy had been in there before me and had under the dash like a rats nest, So, I cut out all his new wires and fixed up the looms back to the way they should be..and then traced a relay not working..So bought a new one from the NH dealer..on the packaging it said "CNH made in China" put it in the tractor and the dash lights came on when the key was turned off, turn the key on and the relay buzzed like mad. Took it back and the next one was the same, spent 4 hours tracing and fighting with it then went into town with the old original relay and got one out of a car shop ...perfect!
Then the handbrake button didn't fit, then........
Won't be buying any more original CNH parts!

I have two CaseIH tractors and one combine. The parts come in CNH packaging, without any trouble.
Interesting story- I recently had trouble with the flashing/warning lights on my Ford 655A TLB. I discovered the flasher/switch unit is about $100 from New Holland, $60 from CaseIH, and about $40 from Agco!
Parts availability for my Fiat dozer is better than ever now that I can get them right through my local New Holland dealer.

I used to try to support my local CNH dealer even though I got burned a few times on outrageous parts, until I had a problem with a service job. It was removal and replacement of a sleeve in the dual power transmission. which I brought to them as a part of the sub assembly. The tech said that it really should be cleaned up a little more and then he would put the inner assembly together for me. Well I foolishly thought maybe 1/2 hour for the sleeve, 1/2 for cleaning and 1/2 for reassembly and said yes. When I went to pick it up it was $1100.00 for 11 hours. I questioned the service manager who told me that he had questioned the tech who told him yes 11 hours. Sometime later I brought it up to the GM who I have known for a long time and all he could do was shrug so there was my answer. Since then I have found almost every Ford or NH part that I need elsewhere. Fiat has made it very clear that they will support the older stuff only at substantially higher profit level than on the ten years old or less equipment.

Our farm has bled Ford blue since the early seventies but the old Fords as we knew it are long gone.New Holland had better get thier head out of thier butt and take a look around here in Ga or they wont be "New Holland" for long.In the past year New Holland has pulled the dealership from the last remaining two close to us here in central Ga.Parts for the older ones such as the 4000 3cyl and 5000 are becoming obsolete by the minute.Last month I was working on the lift on a 4000 and needed the unloading valve and bushing,NLA from New Holland.Since it isnt avalible aftermarket either whats a fella to do?I finally found one in an old closed Ford dealer building that still had some stock in it.We still run 9600-9700 series tractors and hate to even think about lift valves and parts for them.

Surprising as the 3-4-5000 series tractors were very common and still quite a number around. 8000 and 9000 series I would not be surprised as there are getting to be few around. I think it matters in terms of dealer attitude if Ford was a line they had before the merger with New Holland (1986) or not. Of course there dealers now that do not want to be bothered with older stuff as the younger mechanics on staff have no background with it. The local independents have all the business they want because of this but there is not enough business for a newbie to jump in full time.

I wouldn't worry too much about original parts from a dealer becoming discontinued. When I.H.'s farm division was still in operation, they had more orphans than you could shake a stick at, as young as 20 years old. Yet,the numbers of old Farmalls and other equipment are slowly increasing because of people continuously rescuing them from fence-rows. How is this possible without parts support? You can bet it has nothing to do with CNH, or whatever their name is this month. It is because where there's a will, there's a way. If CNH BLUE ceased all parts support for 9700s tomorrow, I wouldn't find it much more than an inconvenience. Who is going to pay $1850 for a cab headliner anyway? I took it to an upholstery shop and had it fixed for $300, with better material. What I'm taking a rather long time to say is if you use your classic tractors regularly, wean yourself from the dealer as much as possible. They are not what they used to be.

The wops certainly increased the parts prices on the Case side of CNH. I suppose they have to subsidize perpetually ailing fiat.

I hate to break this to you... but Fiat bought Ford/NewHolland over 20 years ago.
The present changes appear to be nothing more than a slight reorganization that's been taking place over the past couple of years. IN reality this appears to me to be an attempt by the Fiat mafia to buy out any outstanding shares they can get and consolidate more shares in private hands...

i was surprised the CNH dealer (was IH) here was about $6 less than Napa for the belt on my Case 800. They've been reasonable on most things. I think they have too since JD is eating their lunch (no, not a jd fan) around here.

Don't see very many Fiat/Fords around. Where i work 35miles SE of house there are tons of guys farming with Fords and quite a few with JI Cases. Also had a strong AC dealer around there too (now agco/massey mostly).

Hope they don't drag them down by using them as a cash cow until they go totally out of business the way White Motors did with Oliver,MM and Cockshutt.
