Rams on a super six loader look bad

I raised the bucket of the loader with my 3pt. The loader is mounted on a dead tractor. The shafts of both rams look to be pitted on the underside of the shafts. It must have been years of condensation in the rams that have caused it to happen. Are they garbage or is there something else I should do, to test them? If there is water in them, I do not want to contaminate my hydraulic system on my good tractor,
Thank you

I have run emery cloth around them to knock off the high spots, and they worked fine. I have found some that looked great and leaked like a sieve.

I'm not sure how long it would last but I once saw a guy use a torch to fill the pits using silver solder. When finished he polished it with fine emery cloth. When he was done, there were no leaks.

Mine didn't look pretty either. I sanded the pistons and ran a hone down the bore. The bore on mine is nearly 6 feet. I took my engine hone and bolted it to a piece of all thread and then to the drill. When I was done I hooked a rag to the all thread and cleaned it out. With new o-rings they work awesome with no leaks. Take a flashlight and check the bore.

Single or double acting cylinders? If they are being used as single acting cylinders the condition of the rods is not critical. They only have to seal on the inside of the barrel.

They are single action rams. I had forgottten that it is the bore and the piston that will determine if they are going to be ok, and not the shaft. I will pull them apart and see what condition they are in.
Thank you
