Thinking about routing my 641's exhaust up.

Yesterday I got in a little bind while box blading the pond dam and torqued the tractor enough to cause the exhaust pipe to rub on my alt pulley. It spit out a few sparks but nothing damaged.

I don't have a muffler on it now and want to get it quieted down and I'm not thinking that I would like to just have the exhausted routed out and up.

If you got pics of a good set up, I'd like to see it.

Also, I'd like to hear your opinion on if this is a good idea or not? If so, what muffler should I use to keep her as quiet as possible.

The standard 'under the hood' muffler is
fine.Instead of turning the outlet down, turn it up
and 'swoop' it out away from the hood.Make the pipe
long enough to get the exaust up over your face.

Since you don't have a muffler on there now, you could buy a "kit" at your farm supply store or online.

On the other hand, you could just buy a muffler sized for a similar tractor engine and have a muffler shop bend some tubing for you. You will need a brace to keep the pipe from braking off from the vibrations.

Yes. As a matter of fact I have a piece of wire holding it back now, but since I want a muffler, I figure if I'm going to do this, now is the time. I'm pretty sure I'll load it on the trailer and haul it to the muffler shop to make sure it looks good.

I just wasn't sure on the muffler to get and/or if this was a bad idea for sound and smoke in the operators face.

I changed my jubilee over to vertical exhaust. Got the pipes here on YT. My tractor had a muffler running sideways under the hood. The pipe connect to the exhaust perfectly. Down side is when it's cold, you will take a shower. Condensation will come out the exhaust until it warms up. Another down side is everything in the rafters will get blown loose when you start it inside a barn or garage.

I never leave mine outside in the rain. I did put a 90 on the top of my exhaust, I back in the garage and when I start it, all the exhaust goes out the door.

A small shower from the vertical exhaust is better than smelling the exhaust if the wind is in the wrong direction.

Hmm. You could look at photos of stock Oliver 550s or several smaller stock Masseys for instance. They came out from under, and then up. I have an AC-B that I mow with and have been thinking of going horizonatal on it to tell you the truth. Its little vertical muffler has been known to get caught on branches and stuff and get pulled/bent back. You want to go from front to back to up from down, and I want to do just the opposite on that little guy. Oh well, if everyone thought and did the same, what a boring world. Thanks for doing your part to keep it interesting. Grin.

On your AC B, they had an underhood muffler, had a little pipe, that stuck up, about 2", flattened on the sides, bet you could find it at steiner, maybe shoup.

I did that exact thing on my 841. Bought the pipes and muffler for a 841D from Central tractor. (Think they changed names but are still around.) Moves the muffler out from under the hood. I had problems with the fuel boiling in the tank. Got rid of the muffler under the tank and no more troubles. No hole in hood for exhaust but does require you drill a hole on the outside lip of the hood for a mounting bracket.
