This tractor sold yesterday for 9K. More money than brains or is it worth it?

Sharp looking M. Apparently whomever bought that the recession is over for him or her. Half that price for central Indiana.

Father in law sold one last year. Original SMDTA, in its original paint, everything about it ran great and worked as should, brand new 16.9x38"s. I think he got $10,000. Paid $9000 for it earlier in the year.

I would say if it's in good mechanical shape it's worth it all day long. Saw one sell this spring for $18,600.

Okay, I didn't know they brought that kind of cash. I know its somewhat rare, the neighbor has one in his shed, been there since I was a kid. Maybe I should go see if he will sell it to me. Has a little IH crawler there too.

Okay I'm a cheapskate for that kind of money I'd
expect fenders and at least one set of rear weights
and maybe a belt pulley.

There was a Super MTA LP on the TV show Raising Hope a week ago. I thought that one was probably quite a rare bird. Must have come out of somebody's collection.

There where not many ever made. A good friend looked for one for years. HE gave $7500 for one in pieces. He is slowly getting it all together.

The cylinder heads where a weak point and are hard to find good ones. The whole engine was a nightmare so a lots of them where scraped when they where not that old.

Neighbor had one he bought new. It gave him so much engine trouble that he pulled the diesel engine out and put a straight gas engine back in it. He sold the engine for scrap in the mid 1960s.

A couple months ago one on ebay went for around 6k. Was not running and not fixed up "barn find".
Probably worth it as a collector.

(quoted from post at 19:22:38 11/30/12) If I had a neighbor that had those in a shed, I'd run,not walk as fast as I could go,before someone else beat me there.

It has been sitting in a shed since the 70's on a rented farm. Maybe I will end up with it for a decent price.

And new tires.

Back about page 6 on the farmall forums is a picture of one that was $9500. Looks way better that this one.
Think someone got burnt. Has a 400, 450 hydraulic manifold, carburetor, fan shrould and a late injection pump. Wrong lights, gauge box, hydraulic lines, hydraulic control and several other things. Can't tell in the picture what the date codes are. Suspect a made up tractor that a lot of parts started out on other than a SMTAD.
Looked agian, wrong steering post battery box top, switchover and starter linkage not right. Looks like a 400 clutch pedal. On top of the T/A housing they left one of the tool box mounting studs used on a 400 and 450. 8 spoke cast wheels and rims. Looks like a 400 pto handle. M type cast wheel on the right front. No rear light or attaching parts. Sloppy work with paint on it.
Wouldn't want to buy at top dollar from this person.
