Prayers Needed and your Experiances with Kidney Cancer

My father is 81 and today we found out he has a mass on his left kidney that is about 7" in size. His kidney is functioning fine and the growth doesn't appear to be effecting it at all. The doctors believe the mass is is probably cancer, he will need further testing to confirm that it is or isn't cancer, if it is believed to be cancerous they would probably remove the entire kidney. I am just asking for as many prayers as possible and if anyone has had a similar situation and their outcome? Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this and for a minute out of your day to speak with our Lord God about this.

Not with kidney cancer, but my brother donated one of his kidney's to his father in law a few years back.

Tiny incision and they popped it right out of him. It was all suprisingly easy and routine.

He feels no different with only one.

I'd hope it's as simple as that with your dad.

Don't wait, don't mess around, just do it as soon as possible while he's in good health.

With somebody at that age you're into the realm of increased risks during surgery, much more so if whatever it is starts making him weaker or unhealthy.

If your not happy with the date the hospital sets for him - fight it or change hospitals. I learned that lesson the hard way with my mom. You have to be your dad's advocate, don't just trust that they've got his best interest in mind - caring can get lost in the bureaucracy.

Good luck - keep his spirits up and stay positive. Doctors can do amazing things these days.

Local blacksmith is mid 70s, had kidney cancer maybe 10 years ago. Surgery went well- he regained lost weight and is in his shop every day. Good luck to you and yours.

I'll say a prayer. The recovery time from kidney surgery seems to be quite long so if surgery is needed, he might need more time to get his strength back than he would from some other major surgeries. Marilyn's mother had this and removing the kidney did give her five more years. Jim

Well, I am not a praying man but I will wish the best for your dad. In 2009 I also had a cancer on the left kidney about the same size and only found it because I was beginning to have heart issues related to it. It seemed that my heart was stopping momentarily, although it was not. That led to a mess of tests.
Once the problem was doped out I was scheduled for surgery within 5 days and had the doggone thing removed. It is tuff for the first week or so but recovery was not too bad. (I was 56 at the time). I would say in 3 weeks he will feel much better! Fortunately I did not have the spleen removed but the cancer has little "floaters" that attach elsewhere in the body. I have had 2 lung surgeries as a consequence of the little buggers taking up residence there and there is still more there. The doctors are diligent and have me on a Chemo pill regimen. I still put in a full day and have had a minimum of side effects. I think it is more of a mental determination that it will not best me. I dont have time for it! I hope your dad will also take that same outlook. I am up here in Maine and I think the doctors here are the greatest. I have no doubt that your dad will receive the best of care regardless of where he is. Again, all the best to him.

My father was diagnosed with a large invasive kidney carcinoma in 1997. They removed the kidney and he was given six months maximum to live given the invasiveness of the form of cancer. He changed to a much healthier diet, and underwent what was then a newer form of chemotherapy, among other things. He just celebrated his 80th birthday last month, and had another completely clean check-up. There is always hope.

pray that all goes well, friend had a kidney removed 3 years ago, he is 76 now, plays golf and bowls, not very well, but wasnt any good at them before either.

You have a blacksmith in your town.?
I thought that the trade pretty much went away by the mid 40s.

That happened to me, It was found by accident. Left Kidney was removed and I went back to work the day after I was released from the hospital was 60 at the time. No problems other than my left testical hurt like heck for a year. It was done in Des Moines Iowa, docter was great.

Lady I know had a kidney with mass removed approximately 10 years ago and has had no further problems to date. A very good friend that I worked with for 30 years had same type surgery approximately two weeks ago and got report back this past Monday that all had been removed with kidney and no follow up treatments would be necessay. Prayer said.
