1993 JCB Sitemaster backhoe

I am having trouble with my 1993 JCB Sitemaster backhoe. I have to use starting fluid to get it cranked and then it shuts off after running for about 20 minutes.

I have tightened fittings, traced fuel lines, checked filters, drained fuel, etc.

Have you tried blowing back through the feed line to see if something in the tank is blocking the flow. My JCB 3CIII is like that.

Your JCB has a Perkins 4.236 and it would be my guess that the screen in the fuel feed pump is blocked, remove the top from the pump and clean the screen and body, put the top back on,bleed the air from the system and see how it goes, that engine is hard to bleed, open all the bleed screws, there could be one or two fuel filters, operate the priming pump lever till bubble free air comes from the filter/s and close the bleed screw/s, prime on till air free fuel comes from the lower bleed screw on the injector pump, close it and finish with the top one, prime on till the lever goes limp, loosen all four injector pipes a couple of turns, spin the engine over on the starter till fuel spurts from the pipe unions and tighten them up,start the engine, you need to check if the heater plug is working as those engines do not like the starting fluid.

Hi
I used to run one of these Mk3's and a MK 2 in
the 90's fantastic Diggers and if you know how to
drive it they will out dig a newer Case any day.
used to dig rock with a straight toothed bucket,
when the others had hammers L.O.L. If I could find a good one for sale in Canada I would buy another, Should of bought my one when I came from The U.K.
The one I had did this with fuel problems. We found that the rubber fuel line from the tank bottom up to the lift pump was breaking up inside. some times the
little flap of rubber would pop up and stop flow.
When a guy blew back to tank it would lay down and
run till the next time. Try changing that line if it's rubber and see if it stops doing it.
A much missed 50 year JCB veteran Driver told me about it, so I'll pass this info on to you guys. The MK3 I had was his old machine .
Regards Robert
