FREE ADVICE

I posted this on the case forum too, but thought it was so important I would share it here too.

If you are like me and have been collecting "old stuff" for 25+ years and maybe done some welding projects for fun, and you decide that moving is a good idea, DON'T DO IT!! Instead go to your local hardware store, ignoring all laws like you're wife is in labor, and get you about a 4-5 ft. piece of scedual 80 1 1/4" galvanised pipe. Take the pipe to your best friend's, or maybe your brother-in-law's house, and have them thump you about the head and shoulders until you decide that moving is a bad idea. Make sure you keep the pipe too, just in case of a relaps. You can trust me on this, this is first rate advice!!!

I hear you. Moved all my Dad"s stuff from the Family farm in NE to my Ranch in CO. Had lived there for 40 years, and assumed would be there for ever, but got a wild hair, and moved in 2010. Still moving, and selling STUFF. Next move won"t be so bad. They won"t let me take much to the HOME.

I'm the 3rd generation of pack-rat on this farm.

Haven't seen the inside of shed walls in decades, it's layered too deep.

I am not a big fan of moving, either. It"s easier for me, as I enjoy living way out in the county. My wife constantly wants to move, however. She thinks I"ll return to Texas, which I would, if it didn"t mean moving. Everytime she brings up the topic of moving, I have a website that I show her. I point out the value of off the grid living with no need for AC as it never gets that hot. I tell her how wonderfull it will be to never see neighbors and do whatever we want without the government intruding. The thought of us living in near isolation usually brings Melinda to her senses. If she ever does call me out on it, I"ll have to enjoy some very rural living. Either way, I win, as I could enjoy life in the isolation from civilization. As long as that place is available, I"m pretty sure, though, that I will never have to move. You can borrow the website, if your wives start thinking that moving is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
If my wife really wants to move

I moved a complete line of equipment 320 miles,across the Rocky mountains (from Ft.Collins to Delta)in '87.Included 5 tractors...Did it all with a '68 Chevy C-50.Took 14 to 16 hrs per trip,took 5 trips,plus several with the pickup.Never again!Next big move,I call the auctioneer!LOL Steve

I have enough problems keeping my stuff moved around my property as I add to the collection and have do it to make room for more. Seriously wife gives me a hard time about all of my 'stuff' but it's the 'stuff' that I had collected over the years that kept us afloat over the past few years when things got really tight. Heck I just added an old 300 amp Hobart welder to the mix this afternoon. Outfit was cleaning up and wanted it out of their way. Considering the only thing wrong with it is that the auto idle control doesn't work, and all it took was a few dollars in fuel and a little time to go get it, and I think I got a pretty good deal. Soon as they get old well truck scrapped out I've got an old ultra low range transmission coming too. Don'w know what I'm gonna do with it but I'll find a use given time......... For right now it's just time to find some more good stuff, and move it to it's new home at my place, and to heck with MOVING it anywhere else....LOL

ou sound like my late Dad, he would look out across his acres of 'junk' and say, "that's MY gold mine".

What you said!

I was career Navy. Picked up everything I owned and moved the whole fam damily every 3 years, including two trips overseas. Lived out of a suitcase for 90 days on those occasions.

That pretty well beat the urge to travel right out of me.

And while my cultch pile may not match up with the BTO's, it's MINE and has saved me some serious cash and provided uncounted hours of enjoyment.

At the moment, I am building myself a small dump trailer from it. Frame, axle, tires, cylinder, pump and engine all came from my stash. So far all I've had to buy is one stick of 3" channel and a U-bolt kit for the axle.

Like you, my next move will be in a body bag.

I could deal with the location, but that tiny little hut would drive me out of my mind in about two weeks.

Another side effect of a Navy career, I suspect. I need ROOM! Nothin' makes me crankier than having to sidle from room to room sideways, bumping into furniture all the time.

Same here. I built the house in 1973 and the barns in 1974. Added on to both and built one more barn. Now they are all full. I'm dying right here and let the kids set up the auction. No way would I even think about moving all that stuff.
