My deer hunting this morning was the usual Chinese fire drill. Actually, the rifle season opened in Nebraska a week ago today, but I was just too danged busy to go out til this morning.
For openers, I overslept and it was broad daylight before I headed for my favorite tree stand. Got out of my pickup about 300 yards from the tree stand and saw two deer under the tree. Put the scope on them and saw a buck and a doe. Took a shot at the buck, but it was 300 yards and my rifle is zeroed for 100. I was right on on azimuth, but I didn't allow enough elevation and the bullet kicked up dust short of the buck. They both disappeared into the timber to the south.
Figured I'd sit in my tree stand for an hour or so and see what was happening. Was just settled down in the stand for a couple of minutes when another buck walked out from the north about 50 yards in front of me. Plugged him, gutted him, and went home. Good sized body, rack would have been a 4X4, but he'd had a few confrontations.
BTW, don't worry about the Deputy Sheriff's car in the photo. He rents the house.
