OT: rednecks....new to me... 1991 style

All,

In deference to the previous post, in 1991, I went to a NASCAR event in Richmond VA.

Long story, but there was a fellow that failed to remove his cover (hat/cap)during the anthem(and Racers" prayer);he was duly warned by many spectators.

Several folks alerted him to the fact that he"d best uncover during the Anthem.

The unusual bruises encountered by the fellow were noted by security that escorted him to proper medical folks.

Rarely was I ever so glad to see real folks in action.

I proudly remove my hat and place my hand over my heart... I did not participate with the corrective social behavior at that moment.

I am proud that someone corrected the offender even if it wasn't you. Respect for those that earned it is a worthy cause if ever there was one.

When my cousin and I had our sprint car, he commented once that when they played the national anthem, everyone in the pits within ten feet of yours truly had their caps off.

During my 1st tour in Germany, 76-79 a pal and I went to the movies. We got in just as they started the National Anthem. In the back row there were a couple of kids goofing around and after it was over I told em that I'd put em across my knee and spank them if I ever saw them fail to rise for the National Anthem again. On kid a real smart azz ask my unit and name which I gave him. Monday morning I was told to report the the Battalion Commander. I report and he ask me if I had threatened his son. I told his yes and why. After he heard what I had to say he gave me full permission to do just that. Thruth being srtanger than fiction while I was an Armor tactics instructor at Ft Know teaching young officers the same kid was a student of mine. He was very embarrassed when I ask him if someone had ever threatened to spank him for failing to rise for the National Anthem. It was good to see his dad again at his graduation.

You had me until you said "spank". No one does that anymore... Especially the military. Everyone flogs today, or pretends they don't know what happened and sits in a corner.

(quoted from post at 21:08:18 11/12/12) It may be the accepted norm but is it written in Law?? or is it assault & battery??

Try standing next to me with a cover on..... We can discuss it after I help you up..........

I have seen many times, It was even worse last year with the Nascar folks ignoring the flag while the National Anthem was being played. even now I don't like those that dance and sway like their shorts are on fire.

Tonight I noticed even in a foot ball game that a few of the folks around the Steelers area was about as interested In paying respect to the flag as a Dodo Bird wants to take flying lessons.. Sickens me to think any event as American as those two sports only think of their big paychecks.

If someone does not remove their cap, are you going to go around beating them all up? When I was in the Air Force, we never removed our cap for that unless we were inside. And what freedoms do we have in this country? The right to demand my (or your) opinions on others! That is not what I was in for. I have never had anyone insist with physical violence that I obey their demands. If so, I also have the right to carry concealed weapons and self defense.

By the way, when I was in the Air Force (1967-1973) military people around here were not honored. When I was off base or came home, we were despised, even hated for being in the military.

1970,

I left a few details out..the fellow that refused was horribly impolite, and with kids within earshot, deserved some alignment, regardless of the pathetic atitude towards the flag.

I am from the northern states, and what I witnessed could be described as a self-correcting situation.

I, too was in the military, but we always saluted the flag when uniformed and capped whilst the anthem was playing.

As best as I have been able to observe, "Rednecks" are folks who name their male relatives after Civil War Generals, have totaled every car they've ever owned, put tires on their pickup trucks that cost more than the truck is worth, have wives that can climb trees quicker than cats, always have a can of Raid handy at the kitchen table, mow their lawn every few years and find some old cars, and, after mowing their lawn set out some flowers in an old toilet bowl, carry a dead possum in an old gunny sack on a stick (just in case) drink Busch beer by the case, live in a trailer that has more miles on it than their truck, favor long sideburns, can spit without opening their mouth, shoot at road signs, pretend they're NASCAR drivers, and this list goes on and on and on,,,,(;>))
