John deere A Question

Quoting from the operators manual, OM-R2002, page 28, first paragraph and last paragraph, you are to use one pint of engine oil in the cover. Not gear lube.

I have a John Deere A 1951 and don"t know much about the tractor. Where is the first reduction gear located on the tractor. I have changed motor oil but I didn"t know about reduction gear oil until reading this question and where do you put the oil in gear at on the tractor.

The first reduction gear is located on the right side behind the clutch.

Checked the Operator's Manual OMR2002 on page 28 [b:654c4848f0]First Reduction Gear Cover[/b:654c4848f0] topic.

[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]"Drain first reduction gear cover by removing the drain plug from the cover. Add 1 pint new engine oil through the rear filler opening in the first reduction gear cover."[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]

The photo below shows the location of the cover drain plug.
