OT - Any light truck tire recommendations

Need tires on my 3/4 ton Suburban. Use is mostly highway/road, pull a 6000 lb. horse trailer pretty often. The most offroad it sees is getting parked at the show grounds although at times we need 4WD if ground has been softened by recent rain. It is the vehicle of choice if weather is bad, but otherwise we try to keep it in the driveway unless the other cars are already taken. Local tire shop has Firestone Destination A/T for what seems a reasonable price. Looking a little at reviews on the web and like most things they are either very positive or very negative although the positives seem to outnumber the negatives.

Any thoughts from the collective wisdom here?

I had those Destination AT's on a Jeep Liberty. Rotated them religously, still cupped and and the more worn the noisier they got. I had about 40,000 on them when I traded the Jeep off. I, personaly won't buy them again.

BF Goddrich Radial Long trails are great tires. Have used them on several trucks and never had a problem with them. The Mud Trackers are great also but niosy on the hwy. The long trails don't have a lot of road noise so you don't have to scream at each other to have a conversation. They have an aggressive enough tread to give you trad in the mud and snow. LOVE 'EM

Look into a Hercules Terra Trac SUV, Terra Trac A/T, Firestone Trans Force A/T or H/T. I am a tire dealer and those are my top choices when my customer doesn't have a preference. You said 3/4 ton so don't skimp. Go with a load range E (10 ply rated).

Have those Destination ATs on 1/2 ton Sub. About 15,000 on them, happy with treadwear so far and off road traction is there when needed.

I bought the firestone transforce ht about 3-4 years ago, they are good tires for wear, most of my driving is highway, but I need to go in mud and wet ground also, these tires stink in the mud. I'm looking at Goodyear wrangler this time. I dont know???

You should have went with the A/T's instead. They'll still give a nice ride down the road, wear like iron AND get you around in the mud and snow.

Thanks, Im gonna look into the transforce at now too, I buy them online, cut out NYS sales tax, and enviro fee NY charges us,,,,

I have used BF Goodrich All Terrians on the 1/2 ton pick-up and the H2. Work great at the farm and very good in the snow. I have 50K on the H2 and they look like they could go another 10K. I bought them at Sam's Club and got the best price. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Can "second" the BFG long trails, great tires, find them really good on snow and ice, not so much in mud. Ken

I'm running Good Year Wranglers on my F-150, they've been a good tire but they're weather checking faster than they're wearing I'll have to replace them long before they're worn out. The truck originally came with Firestones (one of the last Fords to have Firestones as OEM) I don't like Firestones, they lasted 88,000 miles and were still legal when I took them off- wanted a little more tire for our Bonzi thanksgiving runs across the mid section of the US to see the FIL. Good enough that I just put Firestones on SHMBO's van. I have had two truck with BF Goodrich T/As I have been real happy with them and that's what the truck is probably going to get next time.

I've had real good service from Goodrich on 1 ton/ 3/4 ton. Currently running BFG "all terrain" on the back and good for all around conditions. Would work great on the back but I don't think you want them on the front. BFG "commercial" on the front.

Consider BFG "rugged trail" on all fours. A friend of mine runs those at each corner of a 4wd and about to buy 2nd set after a long life from the first set. Whatever you do, get the heavier "E" range tires.

The cars and the 1/2 ton suburban all run Michelin. I would buy Michelin for the 1 ton but can't swing it at $300 bucks each! BFG is a good compromise on price and quality.

I have never worn out a Goodyear tire. They always separated or the bead failed before the tread wore out. I quit buying them over a decade ago.

Michelin you will never be sorry about it. Look around for a good price I got mine at Wally World. They also have them at Costco.

BFGoodrich are good tires. My top choice would be Michelin. When I managed a large auto center we hardly ever adjusted Michelins.

After working for a friend in his tires store and getting familiar with the different brands, this is one question that I never have to ask myself anymore. If you're keeping the vehicle for more than a year it gets Michelins. Period, end of story.

Just replaced the original Bridgestones on my dad's 02 Silverado 3/4 ton. Had 57,000 miles on them. Replaced with Firestone Transforce at 173.00ea.

We run firestone transforce at's on all the company trucks. We've tried other brands but the firestones hold up the best. They have great traction plowing snow and in the mud. And we inflate the tires to max preasure thats on the tire. I know alot of people that inflate tires to what is printed on the door and once you put differant tires on that inflation no longer applys. Jim

Kirk, Been running the 265/75xR16, Load range E, Michelins LTX MS2, regular old street tread pattern Got them from Discount Tire , W/ big warranty, & road hazard! The cheapest new set of tires of any variety I could find was still in the High 8s low 9s hundred dollars. The Michelins were only about $150 more. I have had better luck here than any other tire I have used.
Forget the BFG All-Terrain KOs Poorest tire made for a heavy truck Like a F350 Dsl in my tire size. only got 35000 K miles.
You loose twice with cheap tires, Having to pay twice in 50000 miles time frame when once would have done it!!!!!!!! Hope this helps,
Later,
John A.

My opinion , Michelins if $$$is no object and Made in USA Coopers for best value. I've had them on my two '99 Subs and a 03 PT Cruiser. Believe they are made either in Indiana or Ohio. Very old / experienced company. I will keep buying them when I need tires. Great wear , quiet and age better than most.
