DRAFTING PROGRAM

I am looking for a good (free) drafting program and was thinking about progeCAD. What have you used and like. I have extensive experience with Autocad and would like something with the same feel and commands

A lot more powerful, 3D, but under $100, get the Student Version of Pro-E/Wildfire/Creo or whatever they are calling it now.

Check out Draftsight. It"s a free program, brought to you by the people that sell Solid Works. Basically it functions the same way the Autocad programs used to function.

We run Solid Works at the office, but use Draftsight to open the old *.dwg files. I"ve had it at home for a couple years too, and been pretty happy with it.

Good luck.

Creo2 is way cool. the student version is dandy and a book from Sham Tikoo (real name) or David Schramm Will make it sing for you. If you are doing commercial work the program will not work with pro Creo2. it will import and export many other formats like DXF VRML, IGES. I use the university version (it is running on this computer right now.) and teach it every day. It has the largest installed base for major design and engineering firms. Home use, excellent. Jim

Sketchup is free and people do a lot with it. Lots of howto and general help info also. If you want to spend a little money, TurboCAD can be had cheap. I may be a little complex to learn though.
